How to Create a Google Feed Using Smart Feed

Get the product status description

If Smart Feed is the first feed tool you use on the SHOPLINE platform, you need to pull product data from the background of the SHOPLINE store to complete the initialization.

  • Note: pulling product data will not affect your normal use of Smart Feed.

Obtaining store product information in the store initialization phase is a necessary part of feed synchronization. Only after obtaining the information can Feed be created and edited, and then synchronized to the GMC platform. This link will only need to pull all the products in the background of the store when it is used for the first time. Since the number of SPUs in the background of the store is abundant, it will take a long time.

  • Note: Not all products need to be pulled, but the products that meet the requirement. The quantity is consistent with the number of SPU products managed by the SHOPLINE product background, but the number of deleted and archived products is not included.

How to Create a Google Feed in 4 steps

Step 1 Create a Feed

SHOPLINE Admin > Apps > Smart Feed > click [New Feed]  > click [Start creating] (Smart Feed will support more channels in the future, so stay tuned!)

Step 2 Fill in the basic information of the feed

In the basic information section, you can make the following settings:

1. Feed Name: Here you can customize your feed name after pinning content for easy identification and management.

2. Target Market: Target market is the country or region where the items in your Google Feed are primarily sold.

3. Language: Specifies the language of the items in the Google Feed

  • Note: When you create your 1st Google Feed, please make sure that the selected feed language matches the store product language. The language of the subsequent newly created feeds (such as the 2nd and 3rd feeds) will be automatically filled in by the system as the language of the 1st feed, and the current language setting cannot be changed by the user. Smart Feed will open up more flexible feed language setting rules in the future, so stay tuned!
  • E.g. Assume that the language of your store products is English (EN), and the target markets are the United States and Hong Kong. When creating the first feed, set the [Target Market] to the United States, and select English for the "Language", that is, US_EN; the second Feeds, [Target Market] is Hong Kong, the system will automatically fill in "Language" as English, and you cannot change this setting temporarily, namely HK_EN.

4. Status: Status represents the Feed state. If the switch is on, it means you need to upload the quotes to GMC immediately.

Step 3 Set product upload rules

You can set product upload rules in this section, and filter qualified products to upload to GMC.

How

 

1. Product source: The range of commodities that you need to upload to GMC. You can set it in the following ways.

  • Fixed upload rules: You can determine the range of products that need to be uploaded to GMC by selecting [All products], [Specify product category], and [Specify product label].
    • When setting product categories or product labels, you can quickly determine which product categories/labels are included/excluded in the product source by setting the "include/exclude" relationship.
      • Note: Product Label is the label you set in SHOPLINE store product management. 
    • Steps: SHOPLINE Admin > [Products] >  Products edit page > [Tags]

  • Custom upload rules: in addition to the fixed upload rules mentioned above, Smart Feed also provides you with more flexible custom upload rules to fully meet your diverse and customized feed upload needs. 
    • Upload condition: Smart Feed supports you to pinpoint your desired products by Product title, SEO title, SKU, Category, Product label, Product brand, Product type, and Custom product type.
    • Contains: By setting this condition in the [Upload condition], you can further filter which product titles, SEO titles, SKUs, etc. are [Contains] / [Doesn’t contains] in the product source.
    • Add condition group: Up to 3 condition groups can be added in Custom upload rules; up to 20 conditions can be added in one condition group. Each condition is an OR relationship, which means the system will upload all items that meet these conditions in the product source to the GMC.

2. Product variants: When there are multiple variants of a product, this setting allows you to define whether to upload all variants or only the first variant. 

3. Filter rules: Smart Feed provides you with a variety of product filters to help you exclude products that may violate GMC-related policies.

  • Filter sensitive products: Smart Feed will update and maintain the system's sensitive terminology database in real-time according to the requirements of Google's advertising policy and the experience of professional optimizers. 
    • Click this option means that if there are sensitive words in the product title or product description, it will be filtered. View the Smart Feed - Google Feed Sensitive Thesaurus. (Note: Smart Feed- Google Feed Sensitive Thesaurus does not represent the official position of Google.)
  • Filter non-compliant apparel products: According to Google's official requirements, if the Google product category or product type is Apparel & Accessories (ID: 166), you need to provide color, age, and gender information; if the category is Apparel & Accessories > Apparel (ID: 1604) or Apparel & Accessories > Footwear (ID: 187), you need to provide color, age, gender, and size information.
    • Click this option means that Smart Feed will automatically help you filter products that do not meet Google's settings if the type of product you are selling and the market you are targeting meet the above criteria.
  • Filter specified products: You can custom filter rules by product title, SKU ID, and SPU ID to filter the products that you don’t need. After filtering, you can remove those products in real time; after removing them, the system will re-upload these items according to the product upload rules.

Step 4 Set product field rules

Set the product field rules that you want to sync to the GMC platform, including mandatory fields such as Product ID, Product title, and Product description, and 61 optional fields, e.g. Product type, shipping weight, etc. 

You can edit flexibly according to the actual needs. Blank filed will upload data according to the system's default rules. After setting successfully, you can change the rules of each product data field at any time.

How

After finishing all steps, Click [New Feed] to complete creating your Feed.

 


 

[Product ID] field use rules instructions

Smart Feed supports the following multi-format Item ID as a filler for the [Product ID] field to facilitate product management.

  • [Product SKU ID](default value)
  • [Product SKU]
  • [Product SKU] - [Product SPU ID]
  • [Product SKU] - [Traget market] - [Traget language]
  • [Product SKU ID] - [Traget market] - [Traget language]
  • Use [Product SKU ID] as a default filler for the [Product ID] field (SKU ID: 180xxxxx).

If you would like to use another format for the fill rule, please contact your SHOPLINE account manager to request a whitelist.

Note: When using the [Product SKU] rule, please ensure that all products in the store backend have and unique SKU.

According to the GMC platform requirements, if multiple products set the same SKU to upload to GMC, data will be overwritten.

If a product does not set SKU, it cannot be uploaded. In both cases, the synchronization of the product to GMC will be affected and the product will not be synchronized or the synchronization will fail.

*So please make sure that all products in the store backend have and unique SKU when using the [Product SKU] rule.

 


 

[UTM parameters] option rule description

UTM parameter is the abbreviation of Urchin Tracking Module (UTM), which is mainly used for media platforms to uniformly track traffic sources, and used in conjunction with analysis tools to provide us with detailed data on social media results.

 

When you integrate multi-channel and multi-store, you can rely on UTM parameters for integration to understand the specific source of the goods converted by the order, including channel and store information.

Currently, Smart Feed supports feed synchronization of four mainstream channels: Google, Facebook, Pinterest, and Tiktok. Merchants can choose whether to add UTM parameters to the product links in feed synchronization according to actual business needs, as well as customize the field names and values ​​of parameters.

*Note: UTM parameters will not affect consumers' visits and normal jumps to landing pages, and are only used for the accuracy and data analysis of users' subsequent behaviors.

*Note: If you use Smart Feed to define UTM parameters, please do not include the same parameter field in the landing page link when advertising, otherwise it will cause content coverage.

 


 

[SKU ID parameter] option rule description

The SKU ID parameter refers to [? 】The characters after SKU=180xxxx. like:https://xxx.com/products/here-is-product-title?sku=18058821120711899646000948

This parameter is mainly used to guide Google to specific product styles and display products in the SKU dimension when Google crawls data and users access product links.

If you use the SPU dimension to synchronize products, you can choose not to synchronize this parameter. At this time, clicking the link will jump to the first style under the SPU by default.

If you use the SKU dimension to synchronize products, it is recommended to check Mandatory. Otherwise, the GMC official agency will be affected because the link of the redirected product does not match, and an error alarm will be reported.

 


 

[Style Value] Description of Attribute Rules

At present, attribute information such as color, material, pattern, size, etc. are all from the product in the Admin background. Merchants need to set the "style value" according to the format supported by Smart Feed, so that the above attribute information can be obtained by the plug-in and synchronized to GMC.

*Note: "Style value" must meet the following format before it can be obtained by the Smart Feed plugin (case insensitive)

Smart Feed Filtering Rules Explained

Smart Feed filtering rules include two types: specified filtering rules and default filtering rules.

Specify filtering rules: In order to avoid violating relevant GMC policies, merchants actively specify rules when setting [commodity upload rules]

Default filtering rules: According to the requirements of relevant GMC policies, Smart Feed sets the rules for filtering non-compliant products by default.
