If your online store has multiple markets, enabling the Domain/Subfolder Redirection feature will automatically redirect visitors to the appropriate regional domain or subfolder based on their location. This provides a localized experience, enhancing accessibility and relevance for your customers.

Enabling Domain/Subfolder Redirection
To enable domain and subfolder redirections, follow these steps:
- From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Settings > Markets.
- Click Preference settings.
- In the Domains section, check Domain/subfolder redirection.
- Click Update to save the settings.
To give customers more flexibility, you can add a country/region selector to your online store through your theme editor. This lets customers manually choose their preferred language and currency. If your theme doesn't support this, consider installing the free "Geolocation Redirects" app to add this functionality easily.
Markets Using Dedicated Domains
If you've set up separate domains, subdomains, or subfolders for your online store's different markets, enabling the Domain/subfolder redirection feature will automatically direct visitors to the specific regional domain or subfolder that corresponds to their location.
For example, if you use ".com" for your US market and ".uk" for your UK market, a UK visitor trying to access the ".com" domain will be automatically redirected to the ".uk" domain.
Note: Once automatic redirection is enabled, your store will use temporary 302 redirects between URLs. These temporary redirects allow search engines to discover and index all your URLs. |
Markets Using a Shared Domain
If you've set up your online store's markets to share a domain, for example, non-primary market domains are set to use the primary domain, enabling the Domain/subfolder redirection will automatically detect the customer's geographic location and adjust the customer's page to display content (such as products, currency, language) that matches their market.
For example, if your primary market is the US and uses USD (example.com), and you have a UK submarket that uses GBP and is set to use the primary domain, a UK customer visiting example.com will automatically see prices in GBP.
Note: Search engines will not index the content of markets sharing a domain. |
Redirections for EU Countries/Regions
To comply with local regulations, EU customers who access your store through a country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for a localized experience will not be automatically redirected. This ensures that EU customers can directly access their intended store. However, if your market is using a non-EU ccTLD, such as .com or .shop, the system can automatically redirect EU customers.
For example:
- If you use the ".de" TLD for the German market and ".fr" for the French market, a French customer visiting the ".de" domain will not be automatically redirected.
- If you use ".com" for the German market with the subfolder "/de-de," and ".fr" for the French market with the subfolder "/fr-fr," a French customer visiting ".com/de-de" will be automatically redirected to ".com/fr-fr."
