“Buy X, Get Y” is a type of discount where purchasing certain items allows customers to obtain another item at a discounted cost or for free. You can set up a Buy X Get Y discount to motivate customers to purchase at your store or reward customers. You can boost the sales of products in your store with this type of discount.
For example, you can offer a free jewelry box to all customers who purchase a necklace. Through the “Buy X, Get Y” promotion, you can offer a free jewelry box for the entire order, or provide a free jewelry box for every necklace within the order.

Creating a Buy X Get Y Discount Code
- From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Discounts and click the Create a discount button in the upper right corner.

In the pop-up window, select Buy X get Y from the Product Discount section.
- In the next page, configure the following:

- Select Discount code.

- If you wish to set a specific discount code, such as “buy 2 get 1 free”, you can fill in the code here accordingly.
- If you wish to generate a discount code randomly, you can click Generate here. A different discount code will be generated upon each click.
- If you need multiple discount codes under the current discount rules, you can click … and select Bulk generate or Import.

- Fill in Campaign name:

- Enter a title for the campaign, such as “Buy 1 Get 1 Free”.
- Customers will see the campaign title on the landing page, the cart page, and the checkout page.

- In the Starting item section, specify the products customers need to purchase to qualify for the discount.

- Specific product: Customers can only qualify for the discount once the product they have selected meets the promotional criteria. You can select up to 500 products. Click Select product(s) to specify product(s), and then click Add.
- Specific product category: Customers can only qualify for the discount once the product categories they have selected meets the promotional criteria. Click Select a category to specify a product category, and then click Select.
- Specific variant: Customers can only qualify for the discount once the product variant they have selected meets the promotional criteria. You can select up to 500 variants. Click Select product variants to specify variant(s), and then click Select.

In the Discount requirements section, select Minimum order value or Minimum order quantity and specify the value or quantity of a customer purchase to qualify for the discount.
- In the Receiving item section, specify the quantity of items customers must add to cart in order to receive the Buy X Get Y discount. Then select the products to be discounted for the Buy X Get Y campaign.

- Specific product: Customers can only qualify for the discount once they add the product(s) you specified here. You can select up to 500 products. Click Select product(s) to specify a product, and then click Add.

- In the Discount type section, set the discount value that customers receive when they purchase a certain quantity of products. When there are multiple receiving item (Y) products in the shopping cart, the discount will be applied to lower-priced items first, according to the product availability you set. If this product is the higher-priced item, it will be considered as starting items (X); if it is the lower-priced item, it will be considered as receiving items (Y).

- If you wish to offer a percentage discount for products, select Percentage off and enter the corresponding percentage discount value.
- If you wish to offer a value discount for products, select the Discount amount and enter the corresponding value to be deducted.

In the Customer eligibility section, you can specify the customers to whom this discount code offer applies.
- If you select All, all customers at your store are entitled to use the discount code.
- If you select Specific customers, only some customers at your store are entitled to use the discount code. You can specify such customers by searching or selecting from the customer list. The customer list displays the customer’s name. If no name is provided, the customer’s email address or mobile phone number is displayed.
- If you select Specific customer groups, customers in this group are entitled to use the discount code. You can select a customer group for your store, and the number following the group name is the number of customers in the group.
- If you select Specific member tiers, customers in this membership level are entitled to use the discount code. You need to install the Member System app to set customer levels. If you haven’t installed the app yet, you can’t create a discount code for a specific member tier.

In the Customer eligibility section, you can specify the customers to whom this discount code offer applies.

If you wish to limit the number of times the discount can be used, configure the following in the Usage limits section.

Total usage limit: You can set the total number of times a discount code can be used. If you set 100 here, the discount code can be used by customers 100 times, and every customer can use the discount code multiple times.
Note: If multiple discount codes are available for a discount code campaign, the value here is the number of times entitled to each customer for each discount code in this discount code campaign. -
Usage limit per customer: You can set the number of times a discount code can be used by a single customer, who is identified by email address or mobile phone number. If you set 1 here, this discount code can be used once by each customer.
Note: The maximum discount value is a setting at the campaign level. You need to set it separately for each discount code campaign.

Total usage limit: You can set the total number of times a discount code can be used. If you set 100 here, the discount code can be used by customers 100 times, and every customer can use the discount code multiple times.

In the Stack discounts section, you can set the discount type that can be stacked with this campaign.

In the Active time section, you can configure the campaign period. By default, campaigns never expire. If you wish to set an expiration time for a discount code, you can uncheck Never expires and specify an expiration time for the discount.

If you wish to limit the number of times the discount can be used, configure the following in the Usage limits section.
- Once you finish the configuration, click Add.
Disabling a Buy X Get Y Discount Code
If you wish to end a discount code campaign, you can click Turn off in the upper right of the discount code details page.
When a discount code is disabled, customers are no longer entitled to use the discount code. You can re-enable this discount code at any time.
