The Multi-language & multi-currency assistant app allows visitors to your store to change the website's language and currency to their preferred settings. This feature is especially beneficial for merchants operating in global markets.
This guide will show you how to configure switchable language and currency options to better serve your customers.

Multi-Language Website Configuration
With the Multi-language & multi-currency assistant, you can leverage Google Translate to create a multilingual website for your international audience. This enhances the shopping experience for customers worldwide.
To use the app, install the app from our SHOPLINE App Store and access it through Apps > Multi-language & multi-currency assistant in your admin panel.

Configuring Supported Languages
Only languages configured in your admin panel can be translated. Follow these steps to delete or add languages:
- In your admin panel, go to Settings > Language.
- Locate the Supported Languages module. Click the trash bin icon to delete languages or click Add language to add new ones.
Activating the App in Your Theme
To ensure the website translation settings take effect properly, you need to activate the app in your theme editor:
- Go to the Multi-language management tab of the app.
- Click Open now in the reminder banner to access your theme editor.
- Enable Multi-language switching tool.
Displaying the Language Selector
To display the language selector on your store website, follow these steps:
- Go to the Multi-language management tab of the app.
- Toggle on Enable google translate and choose the selector placement: Header or Footer.
Now, the language selector should be visible on your store website. See below for an example of how it might appear:
Enabling Browser Language Redirect
Even with the language selector configured, the store will display the current store language by default. To automatically show your website to visitors based on their browser language, follow these steps:
- Go to the Multi-language management tab of the app.
- Toggle on the Enable google translate switch and select the Browser language redirect option.

Enabling Multi-Market Translation
You can also use this app's settings to extend Google Translate's capabilities beyond your store language to include your target market languages.
Important: Once the languages are selected, the content that has been translated using the Multi-Language Translator app will be replaced.
Follow these steps to configure:
- Go to the Multi-language management tab of the app.
- Toggle on the Enable Market translation switch. Note that you need to enable Enable google translate first to activate this setting.
- Select the desired market languages that you want to enable translation for.
Note: Without enabling market translation, the app will not translate the website to your default language. For instance, if your site is in Japanese but your market is set to English, translations from Japanese to English won't happen. |
Multi-Currency Store Settings
Offering multiple currencies can significantly enhance your store's global competitiveness. With the Multi-language&multi-currency assistant app, customers can easily browse products in their preferred currency, enhancing their shopping experience and building trust.

Configuring Multi-Currency Switch
Before displaying the currency selector, you must set up currency format codes for automatic conversion:
Important: Currency conversion is for display purposes only. Payment currency is determined by store settings.
- In the app, go to the Multi-currency management tab and click Set currency format code in the Enable multi currency switch module.
- Copy the codes from the HTML with currency and HTML without currency boxes. Then, click Basic settings.
- On the Basic settings page, locate Payment currency, enable Custom currency format, and click Edit format.
- Paste the copied codes into the corresponding boxes of the store's payment currency (usually the first).
- For custom currency display, click Notice and replace {{amount}} with your desired variable.
- Click Save.
Your website can now display multiple currencies. Only currencies listed in the app's Currency list will be available for selection. See Adjusting the Displayed Currencies for details.
Note: To configure currency switching for different markets, find the necessary format codes in the provided file and follow the above steps. |
Enabling and Displaying the Currency Selector
While your website can perform currency conversions, additional steps are required to enable and display the selector.
- In the App, go to the Multi-currency management tab and toggle on Enable multi currency switch.
- In the Placement settings module, choose the selector's placement and select Display currency symbol if desired.
- Click Open now in the reminder banner to access your theme editor.
- Enable Multi-currency switching tool.
The currency selector should now appear on your website. See below for a frontend display example:
Adjusting the Displayed Currencies
Not all currencies will be displayed for selection. To decide which currencies to display, follow these steps:
- In the app's Multi-currency management tab, locate the Currency list module where you'll find all the default currency options.
- You can perform the following actions to adjust the options:

Delete Currencies: To remove unwanted currencies, hover over the currency and click the trash bin icon. The store's payment currency cannot be deleted.

Edit Currencies: To quickly select or deselect currencies, click the + Edit list button.

Adjust Display Order: To change the currency order, click Adjust sorting and drag and drop as needed.

Delete Currencies: To remove unwanted currencies, hover over the currency and click the trash bin icon. The store's payment currency cannot be deleted.
Setting Up the Default Currency
You can decide the default currency displayed to visitors to your store. Configure the default settings by following these steps:
- In the app's Multi-currency management tab, locate the Default currency module.
- You have two options:

- Select Auto-detect based on IP address to display the currency based on the visitor's location.
- Select Specify currency to set a fixed default currency.
Note: The default currency setting is independent of the currency switch feature. Even if the Enable multi currency switch is turned off, the default currency setting will still take effect. |
