Understanding Fees and Payout Schedules
All payment methods supported by SHOPLINE involve third-party service providers to securely process transactions. This guide explains how customer payments are processed, details on payout schedules, and transaction fees for SHOPLINE stores. Understanding both the payment flow and payout timing will help you manage your store’s cash flow effectively and provide a transparent experience for your customers.
Note: When setting up payment methods, we recommend reviewing the terms and fees directly with your payment service provider. |
Understanding the Payment Process
Processing payments involves several key players, each with a distinct role in ensuring secure and efficient transactions.
Key Players in the Payment Process
- Issuers: Financial institutions that issue bank cards to cardholders and define the terms of their use. They initiate and organize participation in the card market.
- Acquirers: Financial institutions authorized by card networks to support the payment process. Their responsibilities include signing merchant agreements, processing authorization requests, and settling transactions.
- Cardholders: Individuals or entities using cards issued by financial institutions to make purchases from merchants. They are the driving force behind the bank card market.
- Card Networks (Visa, Mastercard, etc.): Infrastructure providers that establish and manage data exchange networks between issuers and acquirers. They enable authorization, clearing, and settlement, and offer services like fraud protection and marketing.
- Third-Party Service Providers: Entities offering specialized services in the payment ecosystem, such as payment processors, data transmitters, and financial service intermediaries.
- Designated Merchants: Businesses, individuals, or organizations that accept card payments and partner with acquirers to process transactions and receive payouts.
