Cash Rounding Rules

SHOPLINE POS provides four distinct rounding rules:

  • Rounding number: Under this rule, the total bill ending in 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the second decimal place will be rounded down, while the total bill ending in 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 will be rounded to the nearest multiple of 5.
  • Rounding down only: Total bills ending in 1, 2, 3, or 4 in the second decimal place will be rounded down under this rule.
  • Rounding up only: For this rule, the total bill ending in 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 in the second decimal place will be rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5.
  • Malaysian rounding: Referring to the cash rounding rule used by Bank Negara Malaysia in Malaysia. Here, the total bill ending in 1, 2, 6, or 7 in the second decimal place is rounded down, while the total bill ending in 3, 4, 8, or 9 is rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5. It's essential to note that these rules specifically apply to Malaysia.

Applying Cash Rounding Rules

SHOPLINE POS streamlines the cash checkout process by automatically applying the selected rounding rule. Refer to the instructions below for how to apply the rounding rule during checkout and where to access the proof.

Applying Rounding at Checkout

If a rounding rule applies and the order amount meets the condition, a convenient shortcut option appears at checkout. Simply select it and click Complete to proceed.

Example: For a store with the rounding number rule, an order of USD 250.17 would trigger a shortcut option suggesting USD 250.20 as the received amount. Simply select the suggested amount option, and the system will then automatically fill in the rounded amount, streamlining the transaction process.
