Understanding Points Consumption at Checkout
SHOPLINE provides a range of marketing campaigns, including coupon code promotions, tiered discounts and savings, and points accumulation. Points are essential for bridging the gap between you and your customers. On the one hand, your customers can benefit from discounts when placing orders, while on the other hand, points aid you in promoting repeat purchases. Points can be utilized in diverse ways, such as deducting order amounts, exchanging coupons, or offsetting shipping fees. This article mainly describes the process of utilizing points to deduct order amounts.
Deducting Order Amount with Points
This feature enables customers to utilize their accumulated points to deduct a specific amount from the total order amount at checkout. The precise deduction amount can be found in the detailed campaign configuration of the store. Once an order is successfully created, the points discount will be applied accordingly. However, if the order creation fails, the points discount will not be applied.
Points Discount Page Description
The Points option is automatically checked by default on the checkout page, but it can be deselected if desired. The number of points available for deduction is predetermined and cannot be changed. After a visible order is created, the corresponding points are consumed accordingly, and the remaining points are reduced.
FAQs About Points Discount
- Why are points still used for deduction even if the payment failed?
A: The deduction depends on the order creation result instead of the payment result. Some payment channels require a certain amount of time from payment initiation to payment completion. During this period, the points will be temporarily locked.
- Why are there points on the order but not on the abandoned checkout?
A: The points displayed on the order reflect the actual points that were used or deducted for that specific order. The points shown on abandoned checkouts are only records and do not indicate the actual use of points. Additionally, an abandoned checkout may involve multiple orders, and the information displayed on the abandoned checkout is from the most recent order. For such abandoned checkouts, the information on it will be regularly updated, which may lead to information inconsistency between the abandoned checkout and some orders.
- Can the points used in an order be released?
A: If the payment for an order fails, the points used in that order will be released.
- If it takes a long time to close the order on a channel, points release takes a long time accordingly.
- For certain payment channels, if consumers fail to make timely payments, the points may not be released. It is because the corresponding points have already been deducted as a visible order has been created.
