Usage Requirements
To use the supported barcode scanners with the SHOPLINE POS system, ensure that you meet the following requirements:
- Upgrade your SHOPLINE POS app to the latest version.
- Use a compatible iPad or iPhone running iOS 13 or later, or a compatible Android device running version 7.0 (Nougat) or later.
1D Barcodes vs. 2D Barcodes
The selection of a barcode scanner depends on whether you are scanning a 1D or 2D barcode. These two barcode types are easily distinguishable and serve different purposes.
1D Barcodes
1D barcodes consist of a series of parallel lines with varying widths. You can create barcode labels with 1D barcodes for products and scan them using the SocketScan® scanner or the front camera of your device.
Scanning 1D barcodes, you can:
- Quickly add products to the SHOPLINE POS cart during customer checkout.
- Promptly incorporate memberships into orders, enhancing overall customer service efficiency.
- Include 1D barcodes on printed customer receipts, enabling future scanning to quickly locate the associated order.
2D Barcodes
2D barcodes are square patterns made up of black and white blocks. You can create barcode labels with 2D barcodes for products and scan them using the SUNMI 2D handheld scanner or the front camera of your device.
Scanning 2D barcodes, you can:
- Quickly add products to the SHOPLINE POS cart during customer checkout.
- Utilize the receipt printer to generate paper gift cards featuring a 2D barcode.
Connecting Your Barcode Scanner
Setting up your barcode scanner is straightforward. Simply follow these steps to connect it to your device and start using it:
- Plug the USB cable from your barcode scanner into an available USB port on your device.
- Wait for the POS system to automatically recognize and connect the scanner.
- Once connected, you can begin scanning barcodes.
Enabling SHOPLINE POS Camera Access
If you want to scan barcodes using your iPad or iPhone's front camera, grant the SHOPLINE POS app access to the camera. You'll be prompted to do this the first time you tap the barcode scanning icon. Follow the steps below:
- From your iPad or iPhone's home screen, tap Settings.
- Locate and tap SHOPLINE POS.
- Enable Camera.
