Understanding Event Analysis

 

Event analysis is one of the most common methods in data analysis. It is used to examine the impact of a contingent behavioral event on the value of your application. You can configure custom metrics, set up attribute groups, and specify filters to query detailed data, set up visualized charts, or perform multidimensional analysis.

Key Concepts

Before conducting event analysis, it is essential to understand the key concepts involved in configuring event reports. These will help you grasp the logic behind the event analysis tool.

Concept Explanation
Event An event refers to the tracking and recording of user behavior. For example, when a customer clicks an ad on a media platform and goes to your store (Page View), shows interest in a product type and visits the product list page (View Product List), clicks on a product to view details (View Product List Item), adds the product to the cart (Add To Cart), and finally makes a purchase (Purchase). In this case, these customer behaviors are all considered "events," which digitally document and describe user interactions.
Attribution Attributes are key details related to the occurrence of an event. They can be categorized into event attributes and customer attributes. Event attributes describe the event’s context, such as the time of the event, the operating system, device type, browser, and IP location. Customer attributes describe the customer’s characteristics, such as age, IP address, shipping location, email, phone number, etc. Attributes can be used as the metrics for an event, grouping dimensions and filters.
Attribute Group When configuring event reports, you can select specific attributes to group metrics. For example, to learn which countries prefer a particular product list, you can choose unique visitors viewing the product list as the metric and choose Country as the group dimension. Then switch to the pie chart view to see the results based on this grouping.
Filter You can apply filters based on specific attributes. For example, if you want to learn the conversion rate of customers in the U.S., you can add a filter such as "country = United States."
Event Analysis Event analysis involves querying and analyzing data based on event metrics, attribute grouping, and filters. For instance, you can configure a report to see the total number of times customers in the U.S. viewed a product details page.

 


 

Metric Operators

For all events, you can analyze the following metrics:

  • Total occurrences (Page views): The total number of times the event was triggered within the selected timeframe.
  • Total customers (Unique visitors): The number of unique users who triggered the event within the selected timeframe.
  • Average occurrences (Page views/Unique visitors): The average number of times the event was triggered by unique users within the selected timeframe.
  • Distinct count: The unique count of the attribute within the selected timeframe.

In some specific cases, you may need to use custom metrics to perform calculations. You can use basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to create custom metrics. Please note that you can add up to 8 event metrics and custom metrics.

 


 

Event Analysis Charts

Event analysis supports various chart types:

  • Line Chart: Best for analyzing the time-based trend of a specific metric (e.g., growth of registered customers). When multiple metrics or groups are added, each will be represented as a separate line on the chart (up to 50 lines).
  • Bar Chart: Ideal for analyzing the composition of a particular metric (e.g., order value by country). It supports up to 50 bars.
  • Pie Chart: Useful for analyzing the proportions of a specific metric across different dimensions.

Below the selected chart, a table is also provided in the Detailed data section where you can examine detailed breakdowns (for example, a list of customers who added a particular product to their cart).

 


 

Configuring Reports

To configure an event analysis report, go to Reports > Event analysis from the left sidebar. Select the event metrics, filters, and attribute groups you wish to analyze. Then click the Apply button in the upper right corner, and the Event analysis chart section will automatically display the chart of your choice. You can adjust the time range or switch chart types based on your analysis needs, and you can also download the chart as images to your local device.

If you encounter any errors during configuration, you can remove metrics or attributes, or click the Reset button to start over. The system will not save your configurations until you click Save.

Note: You can configure up to 8 attribute groups and 8 metrics per report.

 


 

Managing Reports

  • Rename: From the left sidebar, go to Reports > Report List, find the report you wish to rename, click the pencil icon, and enter the new report name. Click Confirm to save the changes.
  • Duplicate: From the left sidebar, go to Reports > Report List, find the report you wish to duplicate, click the duplicate icon, and enter the new report name. Click Confirm to save the copy.
  • Delete: From the left sidebar, go to Reports > Report List, find the report you wish to delete, click the trash bin icon, and confirm the action in the pop-up window.
  • Save: From the left sidebar, go to Reports > Event analysis, configure your report, and click Save in the upper right corner. Enter the report name and click Confirm to save it.
  • Save As: From the left sidebar, go to Reports > Report List, modify the configuration, and click Save As. Enter the new report name and click Confirm.
