This guide explains how to set up custom domain redirections in SHOPLINE. This feature allows you to automatically forward traffic from one domain to another, enhancing branding, user experience, and SEO.
For example, while most users consider "www.example.com" and "example.com" to be the same website, SHOPLINE and domain registrars treat them as distinct domains. If you have a main store at "www.xxx.com" and a UK-specific subdomain at "www.storeuk.xxx.com," you may want to ensure that visitors to the UK subdomain are not automatically redirected to your main store. By setting up a custom redirection, you can have "www.storeuk.xxx.com" go directly to "storeuk.xxx.com," ensuring that visitors to your UK market are taken to the correct page.
Note: This feature is currently in beta testing and not available to all merchants. Contact us if you're interested in early access. |

Custom Domain Redirection Setup
To set up a custom domain redirection, follow these steps:
-
From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Settings > Domain Name.
-
Click Manage domain next to Main domain.
-
Find the domain you want to redirect and click Switch.
-
In the pop-up window, select Custom redirect.
-
From the dropdown menu, select the domain you want to redirect the current domain to, then click Switch to confirm.
You'll be automatically redirected back to the domain list. Check the top-right corner for a notification or review the domain list to confirm that the redirection was successful.
Note: Changes to redirection settings may take up to 10 minutes to take effect due to caching. |
Rules and Limitations
- Not all store domains support custom domain redirection. The following types of domains are not eligible for modification:
-
- Primary store domain: The main domain associated with your store.
- SHOPLINE domains ending with myshopline.com: For example, {handle}.myshopline.com.
- Subdomains automatically associated with a market in Settings > Markets: For example, the US market domain.
- Unconnected domains: Domains that are not currently linked to your store.
- Custom domain redirection allows you to redirect one custom domain to another. If you cannot find the desired target domain in the dropdown list, ensure that:
-
- The target domain is not the same as the current domain: For example, you cannot redirect "aa.xxx.com" to itself.
- The target domain is not the primary domain: Redirection to the primary domain is a global store setting and cannot be set for individual domains.
- The target domain is another custom domain: For example, you cannot redirect "aa.xxx.com" to {handle}.myshopline.com.
- For performance reasons, such as optimizing website loading speed, SHOPLINE does not support multi-level custom domain redirection. This means that if you've already set up a redirection from "bb.xxx.com" to "cc.xxx.com," you cannot set "bb.xxx.com" as the source domain or "cc.xxx.com" as the target domain for any other redirection settings.
