Gift Offer: Free Gift Campaign Management and Display – SHOPLINE Help Center

After creating a free gift campaign in the SHOPLINE admin panel, customers can view the corresponding campaign when they visit the product detail page in your store. Upon meeting the qualifying conditions, customers can select their preferred free gift from the shopping cart and proceed with checkout. You can set different free gifts for varying qualifying conditions, and a free gift campaign can effectively enhance user conversion rates and increase the average transaction value.

Note: If you’re using a SHOPLINE OS 3.0 theme, you must manually add the Gift Offer app block in the theme editor to properly display the campaign banner and related settings. For details on app block functions, setup steps, and which app features require app block support, refer to the Help Center article "Integrating Apps into OS 3.0 Themes."

Explanation of Free Gift Campaign Discount Rules

Description of discount calculations for free gift campaigns and types of campaigns that support stacking:

The free gift campaign is calculated based on the selling price of the products. When a customer's selected products meet the free gift campaign discount threshold, the customer can choose corresponding free gifts.
Once customers have taken part in a free gift campaign, they can further combine it with time-limited promotions, automatic discounts, and discount code campaigns for the relevant products.
Free gift items won't be eligible for any other promotional campaigns.

Note: Starting from December 6, 2023, a product set from multiple product sales, add-on items, and after-sales discount campaigns can be stacked with free gift campaigns. If a customer adds a product set to the shopping cart and the quantity or total amount fulfills the conditions for a free gift campaign, the customer is considered eligible for the campaign.

Creating Free Gift Campaigns

To create a free gift campaign, access the Gift Offer app. Under the Campaign list tab, click Create in the top right corner.

Enter a Campaign title that will be displayed in the storefront, then configure the campaign via the following steps:

Note: The campaign name will be displayed in your store, allowing customers to see it on pages such as the product detail page, shopping cart, and checkout page.

Step 1. Set Offer Requirements

In the Offer requirements section, define how customers can qualify for the gift and how gifts are distributed.

Offer condition

Choose from the following options:

Unlimited: Specify the number of gifts to be given. This allows customers to receive gifts without any minimum purchase requirement.
Minimum purchase amount: Set the qualifying purchase amount for customers to receive gifts. You can click + Add tier below to create tiered promotions for different spending levels. If Uncapped is enabled, the system will continue to issue gifts based on the rule. For example, in a "Spend $100 to get 1 gift" campaign, a customer who spends $200 will receive 2 gifts. The more they spend, the more gifts they can receive, with no limit on the total number of gifts.

Minimum quantity of items: Specify the minimum number of products customers must buy to qualify for gifts. You can also click + Add tier to set up tiered promotions for different purchase quantities. If Uncapped is enabled, the system will continue to issue gifts based on the rule. For example, in a "Buy 2, get 1 gift" campaign, a customer who buys 4 items will receive 2 gifts. The more they purchase, the more gifts they can receive, with no upper limit.

Note: When you select Minimum quantity of items as the condition for offering free gifts, any items in the customer's order with a transaction amount of $0 will not be counted toward the required quantity.

Gift quantity rule

Choose how gifts are counted within each tier:

Limit total gifts: Limit the total number of gifts customers can receive per tier. Example: If the offer is "Buy 5, get 3," customers who meet the requirement can choose up to 3 gifts from the gift pool.
Fixed quantity per gift item: Set a fixed number of gifts for each gift item in the campaign. Example: If you offer two gifts—Gift A (2 SKUs) set to give 2 pieces, and Gift B (2 SKUs) set to give 1 piece—customers can only choose the SKU for each gift, and the quantity cannot be adjusted.

Notes on Using Fixed Quantity per Gift Item:

When the gift adding method is set to Manually select, eligible customers can only select the SKU of the gift. If the selected SKU is out of stock or exceeds the quantity limit defined in Gift management, customers must choose another SKU or remove the gift.
If the Offer condition is set to Minimum purchase amount or Minimum quantity of items, and Uncapped is enabled, customers can select gifts again each time they meet the purchase threshold. They can also choose different gift SKUs for each threshold reached.
When the gift adding method is set to Automatically add gifts, the system will automatically add gifts according to the order defined in the campaign. It will add the first SKU with sufficient stock under each gift SPU. If all SKUs of a gift are out of stock or exceed the quantity limit defined in Gift management, the system will automatically select the SKU with the highest available stock and add gifts based on its available quantity. Any remaining unfulfilled quantity will not be supplemented.

Tiered settings

For the Minimum purchase amount and Minimum quantity of items conditions, you can click + Add tier to offer different gifts at various spending thresholds.

If you want multiple tiers of gift rules to apply together, enable the Supports tiered stack option.

Enabled: Customers who meet a higher tier can receive gifts from that tier and all lower tiers. Example: Tier 1 = 1 gift per 1 item; Tier 2 = 2 gifts per 2 items → customers meeting Tier 2 can select 1 gift from Tier 1 and 2 from Tier 2 (3 total).
Disabled: Customers can only select gifts corresponding to the highest tier met. Example: Tier 1 = 1 gift per 1 item; Tier 2 = 2 gifts per 2 items → customers meeting Tier 2 can only select 2 gifts from Tier 2.

Step 2. Select Applicable Products

In the Applies to section, choose the scope of products included in the campaign:

All products: Every product in your store will be eligible.
Specific product category: Select only certain categories. Click Select a category, check the relevant ones, and click Select.
Specific product: Choose specific products. Click Select product(s), check the relevant ones, and click Add.

Step 3. Configure Method of Adding Gifts

In the Method of adding gifts section, select your preferred gift offering method:

Manually select: If this option is selected, customers can choose gifts themselves after meeting the requirement. By default, customers can manually select gifts in the shopping cart.
- Select gifts when clicking "Buy Now" on the product details page: If enabled, customers can also select gifts when clicking the Buy Now button on the product detail page.
- Select gifts to add to cart in a pop-up on the product details page: If enabled, customers who click Buy Now will see a pop-up prompting them to select gifts before proceeding to checkout.
Automatically add gifts: If this option is selected, the system will automatically add gifts to the shopping cart.
- Automatically add gifts to checkout: If enabled, gifts will also be automatically added to the checkout page.

Step 4. Set Campaign Schedule

In the Campaign schedule section, configure when the campaign should take effect.

To set an end date, uncheck Permanent valid and define the end date.
To keep the campaign ongoing, leave Permanent valid checked.

Once steps 1–4 are completed, click Create to launch your campaign.

Key Considerations for Creating Free Gift Campaigns

When creating a free gift campaign, please take note of the following:

Each product can only have one active free gift campaign at a time. If you set up multiple free gift campaigns for different products, customers can choose the free gifts within the corresponding campaign when they meet the relevant criteria.
You can set different tiers for the free gift campaign, with up to 10 free gifts available in each tier. Customers can select from these options when they meet the criteria.
If you don't set the free gifts to be automatically added, the shopping cart will display thumbnails of the free gifts and a selection reminder to customers. Customers need to make a choice, and only then will the corresponding order include the free gifts.
If a customer has selected fewer free gifts than the eligible quantity, they can click on the free gift selection reminder in the shopping cart to choose the free gifts.
If the selected free gifts become invalid, they will be removed, and the customer can re-select the items from the free gift selection reminder in the shopping cart.
Customers may not be able to select free gifts if they proceed directly to the checkout page. If you have set the method of adding free gifts to be Manually select, you can enable customers to choose free gifts by clicking Buy Now on the product detail page when they meet the criteria. This setting allows customers to trigger the free gift selection pop-up by clicking Buy Now and then proceeding to checkout. If the method of adding free gifts is set to Automatically add gifts, selecting the option to automatically add free gifts to the checkout page will result in the free gifts being added automatically when the customer meets the criteria on the checkout page.

Customizing Gift Display and Market Settings

Custom Style

You can configure the display of the free gift campaign on the product detail page and in the shopping cart, allowing customers to view and choose their free gifts.

Note: If you’re using a SHOPLINE OS 3.0 theme, you must manually add the app block in the theme editor to properly display the product page banner. Steps to set the display style of free gift campaigns in the store:

Access the Gift Offer app and go to the campaign creation or editing page. Click the Edit button in the Custom style section.
In the Product detail page module, set the text and style of the free gift banner, as well as the text for the Add to cart button.
In the Shopping cart module, set the text and style for the cart activity banner, as well as the text for the activity tag.
In the Gift selection pop-up window module, configure the pop-up window name, and whether to display the activity duration, banner text, and color.

Step 1: Go to Admin Online Store Design, click the Design button of Current theme.
Step 2: In the Theme settings module, configure Carts to select popup notification.

Order Display Text

You can enable this option to display the free gift campaign information in the customer’s order summary. When checked, the text you enter will appear alongside order details, helping customers identify which gifts were included as part of the campaign.

Tip: Keep the text short and descriptive, such as "Free gift included with your purchase."

Markets

In the Markets section, you can select the markets where the gift campaign will be available. Click Manage to enable Apply to all markets, or disable it to specify your preferred target markets. Only customers whose orders fall under the selected markets will be eligible for the campaign.

Note: If you disable Apply to all markets and manually select applicable markets, any newly added markets in the future will not automatically apply to this campaign by default.

Editing Free Gift Campaigns

At any point, you can modify the configurations of a free gift campaign by selecting the campaign from the free gift campaign list. This allows you to edit the campaign title, gifts across various tiers, applicable products, campaign tier settings, gift addition methods, automatic gift allocation, campaign duration, and custom styles.

Note: Once the gifting conditions are set, they can't be modified, but adjustments can be made to the associated gifts.

Steps to edit a campaign:

Go to the Gift Offer app, search or select the campaign you want to edit from the list, and click to enter the editing page.
After making adjustments, click Update. Your store will display the latest activity information, and customers browsing your store will see the updated activity information.
You can also disable the corresponding free gift campaign at any time. Simply click Disable on the campaign settings page. The disabled campaign will no longer be displayed in the store. At the same time, the end time of the activity will be adjusted to the time it is disabled.

Note: Orders that have already been placed won't be affected by the updated campaign, and the gifts already enjoyed by customers will remain unaffected. However, for items added to the cart or on the checkout page but not yet settled, the updated campaign information will apply.

Free Gift Campaign List

After creating a free gift campaign, you can manage and access the editing page of any campaign within the free gift campaign list.

The list displays basic information about the campaigns, including the following:

Under the Campaign name column, you can view the title of the corresponding free gift campaign.
In the Offer requirements column, you can see the giving conditions of the corresponding free gift campaign. If your campaign has multiple tiers, the giving conditions for each tier will be displayed here.
In the Gift with purchase column, you can view the images of the gifts associated with the campaign.
In the Gifts given column, you can see the quantity of gifts already granted for the respective campaign. If orders related to the free gift campaign are canceled, the granted gift count will be correspondingly reduced.
In the Active time column, you can view the campaign's effective period, including the start and end times.
In the Status column, you can check the current status of the campaign.
- Active: The activity is in progress.
- Scheduled: The activity hasn't started yet.
- Expired: The activity has ended.
