Flow Automation: Triggering Workflows When a Customer Subscribes
When a customer subscribes to marketing content, such as signing up for email newsletters, the Customer Subscribes trigger in Flow Automation is automatically initiated. You can use this workflow to tag customers, adjust their membership level, update counters, and more, helping you manage subscription behavior and marketing strategies more efficiently.
| Note: "Auto-tagging" applies only to newly created items. The system will automatically add tags to new products, orders, or customers based on the conditions you’ve set in the workflow. |
Supported Actions
You can use the following actions with the Customer Subscribes trigger. Click on each action name to view its setup details:
- [Customer] Add Customer Tag
- [Customer] Adjust Membership Level
- [Customer] Extend Membership Duration
- [Customer] Update Counter
Testing the Workflow
To verify that the workflow is triggered correctly, follow the steps below to create a test customer:
- From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Customers and click Add customer to create a test profile. (We recommend using a distinctive name or email address to easily identify the test customer later.)
- After successfully creating the test customer, locate and select it from the customer list to open the customer details page.
- In the Subscriptions section, click the pencil icon and adjust the customer's subscription status in the pop-up window—for example, enable Email subscription.
- Finally, verify whether the trigger works correctly according to the conditions configured in your workflow.
Example Use Case
Here’s a real-world example of using the Customer Subscribes trigger — When a customer subscribes to email marketing, the system checks the behavior type and timestamp, then updates the monthly subscription counter. Refer to the following screenshot for how to configure this workflow:
- Trigger: Customer subscribes
- Condition: Behavior is "Email Subscription" and occurs within the target month
- Action: Update counter for tracking customer subscriptions
Available Templates
Here are some ready-to-use workflow templates that include the Customer Subscribes trigger. You can import and customize them based on your needs:
- Track monthly new email subscribers: When a customer subscribes to marketing emails, the system checks the subscription time and updates a monthly counter. You can send this data to an internal email address for reporting.
- Tag customers who unsubscribe: When a customer cancels their subscription, the system automatically updates their customer tag. This helps you identify unsubscribed customers for future win-back campaigns.
- Track total subscription count: Each time a customer subscribes, the system updates a cumulative counter. This data can be used to generate regular internal subscription reports.
