Managing Gift Card Products and Manually Created Gift Cards
Gift cards are a flexible and popular way for customers to share your brand with others. Whether you’re selling them as products or issuing them manually to customers (e.g., for promotions, returns, or loyalty programs), SHOPLINE makes it easy to manage your gift card settings.
This guide walks you through how to manage your gift card product settings and distribution notification options.
Accessing Gift Card Settings
To manage how your gift cards behave and are distributed:
-
From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Settings > Gift cards.
-
You will see options for expiration, display, and notification preferences. Each setting is explained in detail below.
Automatic Expiration
Decide whether gift cards should expire after a certain period or remain valid indefinitely.
-
Doesn’t expire (default): Gift cards will remain valid until they are fully used or manually deactivated.
-
Set expiry date: Choose this option to set a specific expiration period. You can customize the duration using years, months, or days (e.g., 12 months).
| Important: Make sure to comply with local laws and regulations regarding gift card expiration, as some regions may prohibit expiry dates. |
Gift Card Display
Control how the gift card code is presented to the customer:
-
QR code: Customers can scan this code to redeem the gift card online or in-store.
-
Barcode (Code-128): Useful for POS systems using barcode scanners.
-
Do not display: The code will not be shown in the gift card email.
Choose the format that best fits your store’s redemption process.
Gift Card Notification
Keep customers informed by enabling automated notifications.
When Automatically send customers a notification when a gift card is created is enabled, SHOPLINE will automatically email or SMS the gift card to the customer or recipient upon creation. To opt out of sending notifications, simply deselect this option.
This applies to both purchased and manually created gift cards.
