Inviting Customers to Subscribe to Your Blog
Encouraging customers to subscribe to your blog helps you build a long-term audience and keep readers engaged with your latest content. SHOPLINE supports blog subscriptions through RSS feeds, allowing customers to stay updated whenever new posts are published.
This article explains what an RSS feed is, how it works in SHOPLINE, and best practices for attracting and retaining blog subscribers.
What Is an RSS Feed?
An RSS feed is a standardized format used to publish and synchronize website content. It allows users to subscribe to updates from a website—such as blog posts or online magazines—without needing to visit the site manually.
When customers subscribe to an RSS feed, they receive updates automatically through their RSS reader whenever new content is published. This makes it easier for readers to follow your blog and stay informed in a timely manner.
How RSS Feeds Work in SHOPLINE Blogs
SHOPLINE automatically generates an RSS feed for each blog category you create.
This means:
- Each blog category has its own RSS feed.
- Customers can subscribe to a specific category they’re interested in.
- Subscribers are notified whenever a new blog post is published in that category.
By using category-based RSS feeds, customers can follow only the content that is most relevant to them.
How Customers Can Subscribe to a Blog Category via RSS
Customers can subscribe to a blog category by accessing its RSS feed URL.
RSS Feed URL Format
To subscribe to a blog category, customers simply need to add .atom to the end of the blog category URL.
Example:
- Blog category URL: https://xxx.myshopline.com/blogs/BlogCategoryName
- RSS feed URL: https://xxx.myshopline.com/blogs/BlogCategoryName.atom
Opening the RSS feed URL in an RSS reader allows customers to subscribe and receive future updates from that category.
How to Encourage Customers to Subscribe to Your Blog
Since RSS feeds are not always obvious to customers, it’s recommended to actively promote them within your blog content. To add an RSS feed subscription link to a blog post, follow the steps below:
- From your SHOPLINE admin, go to Online Store > Blog, then click Manage blog categories.
- Locate and click the blog collection you want customers to subscribe to.
Copy the blog collection URL from the Search Engine Optimization section, then add .atom to the end of the URL to generate the RSS feed URL.
Example: https://abc.myshopline.com/blogs/news.atom
Return to Online Store > Blog, then open the blog post where you want to add the subscription link.
In the blog content editor, add a clear call-to-action, such as: "Love this content? Subscribe now and never miss an update! 🔔" Then highlight Subscribe now and insert the RSS feed URL as a hyperlink (e.g., https://abc.myshopline.com/blogs/news.atom).
- Click Update to save your changes.
Once published, customers can use the link in the blog post to subscribe to updates from that blog collection.
