Flow Automation: Triggering Workflows When a Customer Submits a Product Review
You can use the Create product reviews trigger in Flow Automation to start a workflow whenever a customer submits a review of a product they purchased. For example, you can notify the staff responsible for a product as soon as it receives a negative review, or track how many reviews your store receives each month.
This guide explains the actions supported by this trigger, how to test it end to end, and provides a practical example for automating communications and updates.
| Note: Before using this trigger, please install the Product Review app and enable the product reviews feature. For setup details, refer to the "Product Reviews: Managing Product Reviews and Ratings" guide. |
Supported Actions
The following actions are primarily used in workflows initiated by the Create product reviews trigger:
- [General] Send email
- [General] Update counter
- [General] Add delay
- [Product] Add product tag
- [Product] Remove product tag
Testing the Workflow
To test whether the workflow is successfully triggered when a customer submits a product review, follow these steps:
- In Flow Automation, set up a workflow using the Create product reviews trigger, then click Publish to activate it.
- Open your storefront and go to any product page.
-
In the reviews section, click Write a review and submit a review as a test customer.
Note: If you have set review requirements in the Product Review app (for example, customers must log in and have purchased the product), use a test customer account that meets those requirements to submit the review. -
After submitting the review, go to Flow Automation to check the execution results.
Note: For more information on how to monitor the execution of your workflows, please refer to the "How to View the Running of a Flow" section in the "Introduction to Flow Automation" guide.
Example Use Case
Here is a practical example of using the Create product reviews trigger to track negative product reviews.
Scenario: When a product receives a rating of 2 stars or lower, automatically notify the staff responsible for the product and tag the product to investigate quality issues easily in one place.
- Trigger: Create product reviews
- Condition: If [Comment Score] is less than or equal to [2]
-
Action 1: Send email
- Subject: Negative Product Review Alert: [Product title]
- Content: The product [Product title] received [Comment Score] stars. Review content: [Content]. Please check whether there are any quality or product description issues.
- Recipient: Manually enter the email address of the staff responsible for the product.
-
Action 2: Add product tags
- Product ID: [Product ID]
- Product tags: Negative review - needs investigation
- Outcome: The staff responsible for the product can identify problem products promptly, and filtering the product list by this tag in the SHOPLINE admin shows all items that require investigation.
