Product Management


For customers to have a seamless online shopping experience, it is crucial to ensure that the product information motivates them to make purchases. This article provides detailed information and suggestions on product configuration.

Setting Up Basic Product Information

Depending on your requirements, you can navigate to Add product or Edit product page to input product details.

  1. In the SHOPLINE admin panel, click on Products > Add product or access the editing page of a specific product.
  2. Set up the basic product information.

    • Product title
      • Format consideration: brand, model, variants, primary product keyword, color, accessories, usage scenario. 
      • Keep the title within 70 characters.
      • Use popular search keywords whenever possible.
    • Product description
      • Be concise and highlight product advantages and unique selling points.
      • Avoid repeating keywords from the title. Consider using long-tail keywords, variants, or synonyms.
      • Include service guarantees or promotional offers.
      • Use videos, images, and GIFs to enhance the description.
      • You can also leverage on SHOPLINE AI capabilities to automate the process of creating product descriptions. Input several product keywords and the system will automatically generate informative and tailored descriptions according to your preferred tone or messaging style.

    • Editing product description
      • You can enhance your product description by editing or pasting information directly into the rich text editor, which supports image and video uploads, as well as text editing. You can also edit images using advanced options and even make code edits if needed.
      • Image upload and editing features: crop, rotate, mirror flip, resize, adjust brightness, sharpen, adjust contrast, and more.
      • Adjust pixel size when uploading images.
      • Double-click on the image for advanced editing options.
      • Code editing feature: supports editing and copying codes, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
      • Access the codes by clicking the <> button in the rich text editor. You can modify existing code or copy code from other web pages.
      • Insertion feature: supports inserting images, videos, links, and sheets.
      • Text editing feature: adjust font size, color, boldness, and alignment.
    • Uploading product images/videos in 4 ways:
      • Click Add images to select and upload images from your computer.
      • Drag and drop images or videos into the specified area effortlessly.
      • Click Add video URL to upload YouTube videos by copying the video link.
      • Click Add multimedia files to select images/videos that are uploaded to the file library.
    • Editing product images/videos:

      • The first image uploaded will be used as the cover image on your storefront’s product details page. To change the position of the images, hold the six-dot icon at the upper right corner of the image and drag them to your preferred sequence.
      • Click Preview to view the full-sized image. Edit the image with options to crop, flip, or rotate.
      • To delete a file, simply select it and click Delete.
    • Editing product variants
      • Adding variant types
        • Click the Add product variant button to add a variant type. You can choose from preset variant types such as color, size, material, and style, or create custom ones that suit your specific needs, such as patterns or target audience.
        • You can create up to five variant types.
      • Add variant values
        • Enter the variant values for each item. For example, for Size, you can add “XS, S, M, L”
        • Press Enter after each value to add the next one.
        • After inputting all the values, the SKU list will automatically create the corresponding SKUs by matching the variant values.
        • Currently, each product can generate up to 500 SKUs. For more information, please refer to Product Variants.
    • Setting product prices
      • Product prices are the charges applied to your products. You only need to input the price without considering shipping fees or taxes, as these can be configured separately.
      • Retail price: The price at which you charge customers for your products. You can set the currency in the SHOPLINE admin panel under Settings > Basic settings. For more information, please refer to Payment Currency.
      • Compare at price: The original price of a product currently on promotion. When you offer a product at a discounted price, it's beneficial for customers to see the original price for comparison. When the original price is set higher than the selling price, the compare at price will showcase that the item is on sale and original price is presented in a strike-through format.
      • Item cost: The cost incurred for producing or acquiring the product or its variants. For example, if you are reselling a product, enter the price paid to the manufacturer excluding taxes, shipping fees, or other charges. If you create your own product, you can enter the price based on labor and material costs.
      • Profit and margin: Once the retail price and item cost are filled, the profit and margin will be automatically calculated and displayed in the product information.
      • Tax requirement: Select the tax option if the product is taxable. Depending on your business strategy, you can choose to include or exclude tax in your product price. The tax value will be displayed at the checkout page for your customer’s visibility. For more information on tax configuration, refer to Setting Up and Managing Taxes for Your SHOPLINE Store.



Configuring Product Properties

You can fill in the properties of your product on the Add product or Edit page based on your specific needs.

  • Product status: Specify whether the product is activated or deactivated. When the product is activated, this product will be visible on the storefront for purchase.
  • Fulfillment: Disable Fulfillment required for products that do not require shipping. For example, electronic gift cards do not have to be shipped.
  • Sales channels: 
    • Select the sales channel that you will be selling on. For instance, if the product is only for online sales then select Online and leave out other channels.
    • Pre-set your product launch date and time by clicking on Set launch time. At the specified time, the system will automatically activate and publish the product on storefront for purchase. This maximizes visibility and impact, particularly when launching new collections during peak shopping seasons or unveiling limited-time product offers. Additionally, it streamlines operations by allowing you to upload products in advance and optimize resource allocation, especially during peak seasons. 
  • Markets: Manage the countries and regions that you sell to. For more information, please refer to Market Management.
  • SPU: Input the unique identifier for a specific product, useful for organizing and tracking inventory at a broader product type of category level.
  • Vendor: Enter the manufacturer or brand of a product. Each product should have only one manufacturer or brand.
  • Tag: Use product tags to help you effectively manage, identify and segment products, such as seasonal items (eg. summer), unique product features (eg. waterproof) or for promotional purposes (eg. sale clearance). Press enter to add new tags or click View all tags to select from the existing list of tags. You can add up to 250 tags per product.
  • Product type: Select applicable product categories from the existing list or add your own product type. Each product will only have one product category and product type.
    • A product category is the predefined category of a product used to facilitate the process of selling products in other channels that require a standardized product type, such as Facebook or Google. An example of a product category is Apparel & Accessories > Clothing > Outerwear > Coats & Jackets.
    • A product type or custom product type, is a way to define a custom category, which you can create and use without using those available in SHOPLINE’s standard product categories. For example, “Denim Coat” is a product type.
  • Collections:
    • Before assigning a collection to a product, create the collections first. For more information, please refer to Product Collections.
    • A product can be included in multiple collections simultaneously. If no specific collection is assigned, it will automatically be added to the default "All products" collection.
  • Search engine optimization:
    • You can click the Edit button to fill in the product page title, meta description, URL, and SEO keywords. For more details, please refer to SEO and Image Attribute Editing.
    • Page title: The title appears as a clickable link in search results. You can customize it to accurately target customer interests. It supports up to 70 characters.
    • Description: Summarize the product content in a sentence. Write a detailed description to showcase your product. The meta description can vary in length, but Google usually truncates it to 155-160 characters.
  • Inventory:
    • SKU (product number): A code used to identify products. Each SKU must be unique for effective tracking and sales reporting.
    • Barcodes (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.): Barcodes are commonly used by distributors. The identifier should be a new or existing Global Trade Item Number (GTIN). Some sales channels require a GTIN for product listing. 
    • Inventory policy: You can choose to enable Track quantity with orders and Continue selling when out of stock. For more information, please refer to Managing Inventory.
  • Weight: The weight indicates the actual weight of a product. If you sell gift cards or products that do not require shipping, you can leave this field blank (weight will be set default to zero).
  • Shipping origin: Refers to the location from which a product is shipped or originated. It is an essential piece of information required for customs purposes, as it helps customs authorities determine the country of manufacture or origin of the goods for calculating import duties, taxes, and tariffs, as well as for enforcing trade agreements and regulations.
  • Harmonized System (HS) code: This is a standardized numerical code assigned to products to categorize them for customs and taxation purposes. HS codes are used by customs authorities worldwide to determine tariffs, duties, and other trade regulations applicable to imported and exported goods.
  • Delivery method: This refers to the store's default delivery method, which is determined based on the settings you have configured in Settings > Shipping and Delivery. For more information, please refer to Setting Up Your SHOPLINE Shipping Profiles.
  • Product recommendation: You may display a "You may also like" section in your online store, suggesting complementary products to customers. You can manually select specific products to be recommended and display them alongside other products or leverage advanced AI algorithms to effectively manage the recommendation for you. For more information, please refer to Product Recommendation.
  • Product archiving: Once archived, the product will be marked as Deactivated and will not be displayed in the corresponding sales channel. You can reactivate it again for sale in the Products module.

Bulk Editing of Products

You can modify the activated/deactivated status, delete multiple products, and efficiently manage your product attributes by editing them in bulk. You can also enter the bulk editor for editing. Please follow the steps below:

  1. From your SHOPLINE admin panel, click Products.
  2. Select the products you want to edit in bulk.

    • Bulk activate/deactivate: Activate or deactivate products in bulk.
    • You can click Bulk edit to quickly adjust selling prices, original prices, weight, and more in pop-up windows.
  1. Alternatively, you can enter the Bulk editor directly for better visibility and editing. In the upper right corner, click Edit columns to select the fields for customization.

Bulk Editing of Variants

When you have multiple variants for your products, you can perform bulk operations to make changes to SKU, inventory, weight, original price/selling price, and variant sorting. Please follow the steps below:

  1. From your SHOPLINE admin panel, click Products and access the product editing page for the variant you want to modify.

  2. Select the relevant product variant and choose from the options of Modify the inventory, Change the price, and More actions to modify the selling price, original price, inventory, weight, or clear values in bulk. The More actions menu provides the following options:
    • Edit product weight
    • Set image
    • Inventory tracking
    • Tax
    • Continue selling when out of stock
    • Modify SKU
    • Modify HS Code
    • Modify shipping country
  3. Alternatively, you can directly enter the Batch editor panel for modification after selecting the desired variants. On the upper right corner, click Edit columns to select the fields for customization.



Other Product Promotion Strategy

The Product Option Customizer & Product Bundler and B2B & Wholesale Solution apps, available in SHOPLINE App Store, allow you to set up customized product options or inquiry modes. Here are the steps:

  • Product Option Customizer & Product Bundler: This app is suitable for product categories that require customization, for example clothing, jewelry, eyewear, and furniture. It enables the following business scenarios:
    • Provide various customization options for products, such as images, text, colors, sheets, and files to meet personalized shopping needs.
    • Set up multi-level associated options for products, allowing upper-level options to dictate the content of sub-options, accommodating complex customization scenarios.
    • Create bundle products and sell them as one to increase perceived value for customers and encourage upselling.

  • B2B & Wholesale Solution: This app integrates inquiry services, tiered pricing, and minimum order quantities into a comprehensive B2B solution. It supports the following business scenarios:
    • Enquiry: Enable inquiry services for your online store and products, accepting and managing customer inquiries.
    • Activate wholesale features, including:
      • Volume pricing: Offer different prices based on purchase quantities, where the unit cost of a product decreases as the quantity purchased increases. Essentially, customers receive a discount for buying larger quantities of a product. This approach is often used to incentivize bulk purchases and encourage customers to buy more units of a product at once.
      • Minimum order quantity (MOQ): Set a minimum order quantity for products that customers are required to purchase in a single order. Meeting the minimum order quantity may be necessary to qualify for certain pricing discounts, to fulfill production requirements, or to ensure that orders are economically viable for both the supplier and the buyer.
    • Additional features
      • Attach supplementary materials to products (e.g., instruction manuals, product price lists), providing users with downloadable files on the product's detail page.
