Setting Up Tips for Your Online Store

 

Enabling online tipping not only increases your earnings but also allows customers to show appreciation for great service, leading to happier customers and repeat business. With SHOPLINE's Tipping feature, you can easily add this option to your checkout process and let customers leave tips based on a percentage of their order or a custom amount. You can even personalize the tip display title and description to match your brand and express your gratitude. 

This guide walks you through the simple steps to set up tipping and start maximizing your revenue while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Key Considerations before Enabling Tipping

Before enabling the tipping option, please consider the following:

  • Automatic tip calculation: The system automatically calculates tips based on your chosen percentage, applied only to the product total (excluding shipping).
  • Voluntary participation: Customers can choose to leave a tip; it's not mandatory.
  • Increased processing fees: Enabling tips results in higher platform and payment service provider fees due to the increased transaction amount.
  • Testing with third-party payment providers: If you use a third-party payment service, test the tipping feature beforehand as some may not support it. Contact their customer service if you encounter issues.
  • Tipping included in refunds: When processing a refund for an order that includes a tip, the full tip amount will be refunded along with the payment for the items. 

 


 

Customizing Your Tipping Options

To tailor the tipping settings on your checkout page, follow these steps:

  1. From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Settings > Checkout Settings.

  2. Locate the Tips section and check the Show tipping option at checkout option.

  3. Set up to three tip options with fixed percentages. The display order on the checkout page will align with the sequence you set. Additionally, there’s a custom tip field where customers can input their desired tip amount and update it by clicking the update button.

  1. Choose whether to enable the Display tip option by default option:
    • If unchecked, customers must actively select the tipping checkbox on the checkout page to reveal the tip options if they wish to leave a tip.

    • If checked, the tip options will be automatically displayed on the checkout page for selection.

By default, none of the tip options is preselected, but you can tick a default tip option for customers.

  1. The system provides default content settings for the tip section. Customize the display message to your preference by selecting Customize tip display message. Use Preview display to view where the options will be placed on the checkout page.

    • Tipping title: Title of the tipping section displayed on the checkout page.
    • Description: Description of the checkbox in the tipping module, prompting customers to check and give a tip. 
    • Tip input placeholder text: Text displayed on the custom tip field, indicating customers to click and input a custom tip.
    • Tip button text: Text for the tip update button. The tip will be updated after customers click on it.
    • Thank you text: Gratitude message you want to convey to customers who tip your store.

  1. After configuring, click Update to save the settings.
