Product Recommendation: Similar Product Search and Product Exclusions

Product Recommendation is an AI-powered app that analyzes customer behavior and product attributes to recommend relevant items on your store pages. By showing customers products they are more likely to be interested in, you can significantly increase engagement and conversion rates.

This guide covers two key global settings within Product Recommendation: enabling the search for similar products and excluding products you don’t want to recommend.

Enabling the Search Similar Products Feature

The Search similar products feature helps your customers discover items that match their interests by analyzing product attributes and customer browsing behavior. Enabling this feature increases the likelihood of customers finding the right product and completing their purchase. 

Notes: 

  • This feature works only on pages that display product cards, such as product listing pages, search results pages, and recommended product modules.
  • If you are using a SHOPLINE OS 3.0 theme and would like to customize where this feature appears on the page, you can add the Similar product recommendation app block to the corresponding pages in the theme editor. For details on app block functions, setup steps, and which app features require app block support, refer to the Help Center article "Integrating Apps into OS 3.0 Themes."

To enable this feature:

  1. From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Apps > Product Recommendation.

  2. In the Dashboard tab, locate the Search similar products option and toggle it on.

  3. Click Edit style to open the style setup pop-up. Select the desired location to display the button, then click OK to save your settings.

Once configured, the button will appear at the designated position on the product cards of your listing pages. Customers can click it to view similar product recommendations.

Note: We recommend checking the product listing pages in your storefront to ensure the button placement looks appropriate and does not disrupt the page layout.

  

 

Excluding Products from Recommendations

Sometimes, you may want to prevent certain products from appearing in recommendations, such as discontinued items, out-of-stock products, or special promotional products. Product Recommendation allows you to exclude these products from being suggested to customers. To exclude products:

  1. From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Apps > Product Recommendation.

  2. In the Dashboard tab, locate the Exclude Products option and click Add Products.

  3. Choose the products you want to exclude from recommendations. You have two options:

    Note: These two options cannot be used simultaneously. You can only select one method to exclude products.
  •  
    • Select product: Pick individual products to exclude.
    • Select collection: Exclude all products within a specific collection.

  1. Based on the selection in Step 3, click Add products or Add collections.

  2. In the pop-up window, select the products or collections you want to exclude, then click Select.

These products will no longer appear in any recommended product lists or the similar products pop-up.

Tip: Review exclusions periodically to ensure that only relevant products are hidden, especially if inventory or promotions change frequently.
