Images

Your customers rely on product images to see what your product looks like. Selling to consumers is all about presentation. You can show the various perspectives of the product, such as font, side, underneath, close-up, etc. so that customers see what they are buying in detail.

Remember the quality of product images directly affects your ability to generate sales. Here are some tips:

  • Each product image should be of uniform size and style across all products you sell.
  • Use high-quality images so that customers can see any fine details.

Product Titles And Description

Product title is the name of your product, where you can include the most important information about the product to make it easier for customers to understand what you are selling.

Product description is the information about your product. It emphasises product advantages, lists its characteristics, or highlights product features. You may also use videos, images, and animated elements (gifs) to help describe your product. Unique product descriptions rank higher in search engines.

The product description section has a built-in text editor, so you can easily add text, bullet points, paragraphs, links, additional images, and videos.

Tips to improve your product descriptions:

  • Consider a 10-year-old explaining your product to you: Do not use long sentences or complex vocabulary.
  • You might find it easier to show than to tell when you include product demo videos. Demonstrate how to use a product in detail.
  • You should provide both a short and long version of your description: Some people prefer scanning over reading, while others prefer reading more in-depth about your product.

Adding Video To A Product Description

You can add a YouTube video to your text to showcase your product and help customers make a well-weighted decision or to make your instructions more helpful. The following steps will help you to add a video to your product description:

  1. Upload your video file to YouTube. Then, copy the link (address from the browser) of the uploaded video.
  2. From your SHOPLINE Admin, go to [Products] > Add a product to create a new product or choose an existing product to edit the details.
  3. Click on the video icon (Insert media) in the text editor menu to enter the YouTube URL and click Confirm.

  4. Once finished with all information about the product, click Add to save the details.

SKU

SKU (short for “Stock keeping unit”) is the code that identifies the product within your business. You can add the product identification provided by the manufacturer or your own combinations of letters and numbers. You can make each SKU unique to track products. It’s also possible to leave the SKU field empty. It is not necessary for every product to have an SKU.

If you want to showcase product SKUs, you can add them in the text editor.

Weight

Weight is the actual weight of the product. You can leave this field empty (the weight will be set equal to zero) if you are selling gift cards or if you do not need to ship a product.

Pricing

Pricing is what you’re charging for the product. You do not need to factor in shipping or delivery costs in the price you input, as they can be set separately.

Check the Tax required box if the product price does not include taxes. Uncheck this box if the product has already included taxes.

Check the Fulfillment required box if the product requires shipping. Uncheck this box if you do not need to ship the physical product.

You can preset the chargeable taxes. Go to Settings > Taxes and Fees.

Under the pricing section, you can see the
Compare at price, cost price field.

  • Compare to price: The original price for a product that is on sale. When you enter a “Compare to price”, the product displays a sale price and savings.

Product Availability And Inventory

Availability: Product availability can be selectively enabled (and disabled) for each product. When you disable it, your store visitors will not be able to see the product on your storefront. You can enable it whenever you are ready to sell.

Inventory: If you have a limited number of a product to sell, you can use the inventory section to specify the quantity that you can sell online and set up low-stock notifications. You can also choose the behaviour for this product when it’s out of stock. Out-of-stock visibility options include hiding the product from the storefront, showing the product on the storefront, and accepting pre-orders

  • Enter the number of items stocked in the Inventory field.
  • Set the out-of-stock behaviour in the Inventory strategy.

Enter a value as the minimum number of quantities left in stock at which you want to receive the Low Stock notice.

If you don’t want to track the stock of this product in SHOPLINE, enable Continue selling when out of stock under the product detail page. This will mean that the product will always be available for purchase in unlimited amounts (it will be useful when selling gift cards).

Categories

Categories are groups/collections of products that a product is included in. It helps customers navigate your store faster and find the products they need.

A product can be assigned to at least one category. One product may also belong to several categories. If you do not assign a product to any special category, it is automatically added to the default storefront page category.

If you assign a product to any category on top of the storefront category, this category is considered the product’s default category.

Product Ribbons

Product ribbons are a way to attract attention to a product on your storefront.

Product ribbons are coloured labels that are displayed in your product images. They can help visually highlight certain products on your storefront. These tags contain your custom text; for example, “New Arrivals”, “20% Off”, “New”, Christmas deal”, or “Free Shipping”.

Download our conversion booster app to set up product ribbons.

Variations

If your product has options, you can additionally create a variation for it. Product variations are unique sets of options (e.g. colour, Blue, Yellow, Orange).

Variations can help you track the stock of individual product options as you can assign a unique SKU to each variation. You can also add images for specific variations so that customers have a better picture of what they are buying.

Learn how you can set up product variations.

Manage Delivery Method

The Delivery method tab allows you to set product-specific shipping methods and specify products’ weight and dimensions, or the product requires physical pick up and cannot be shipped.

By default, your store’s shipping methods that you set on the Shipping and Delivery page are used. You can keep those shipping rate options available if your store allows regular shipping rates. Or you can set a specific shipping rate for specific products.

SEO

On the SEO tab, you can set specific SEO-related information for your product’s page. When analysing a webpage, search engines get information about its content from “meta tags”. This includes the page title and meta description. Search engines use meta tags to describe pages as they appear in the search results and rank them by relevance.

SHOPLINE automatically generates metadata based on your product’s name and description. Search engines display a limited number of characters so that you can rewrite the page title and meta description. Editing page titles and descriptions with relevant keywords, so your product appears higher in search engine results.

Page title – The title is shown as a clickable link in search results. You can customise the title to target your clients’ interests more accurately. You can edit up to 70 characters.

Meta description – A short sentence summarising the content of the product. Write a more detailed text describing your product offering. Meta descriptions can be any length, but Google generally truncates snippets up to ~155 - 160 characters.

Related Product And Product Recommendations

The related products tab allows you to display the “You may also like” section in your online store as well as to cross-sell products in the cart. You can manually set/select specific recommended products, and show random products. Download our product recommendation app to Add product recommendations to your store to upsell, supported by a smart recommendation AI algorithm.

“Buy Now” Button

The “Buy Now” button allows you to generate individual product integration codes to add this specific product to an external website or blog.

This option allows you to add a “Buy Now” button without adding a whole SHOPLINE store.

For example, you sell only a few items, or you want to create a landing page for a product, or you need to supplement a blog post with the option to buy the product.
