New Rules For Email Senders From Google
Starting February 1, 2024, Google Mail imposes new requirements on all senders.
It means, if you want to send emails to gmail.com or any other google email, your email address need to meet Google's new requirements. Otherwise the email may fail to be sent, or go to the spam.
Google's requirements for senders are more strict than Yahoo's, so if your email can meet Google's requirements, you might won't have much trouble in Yahoo.

Google's new requirements can be divided into two scenarios
- Requirements for all senders, i.e., base requirements
- Maintain a low spam rate as low as possible below 0.10%
- Don't impersonate Gmail From: Headers. For example, if your sender email address is actually a yahoo email, but there's gmail or google info in the send name or in the prefix of the email address. Google will define such actions as impersonation
- Set up SPF or DKIM email authentication for your domain
- Ensure your sending domains or IPs have valid forward and revere DNS records, also referred to as PTR records
- Format messages according to the Internet Message Format standard
- Advanced Requirements for bulk senders( i.e., sending 5,000 or more messages per day )
- The domain name of the outgoing mailbox MUST be DMARC-validated
- Marketing messages and subscribed messages must support one-click unsubscribe, and include a clearly visible unsubscribe link in the message body, but without clicking on the link to unsubscribe
- The domain of the outgoing mailbox cannot be used with a shared domain
Impact of Google's New Rules On SHOPLINE
The system will automatically send an email to the consumer after a purchase or a membership action occurs in your SHOPLINE store.
Such as order notification after placing an order, welcome notification after registering as a member, and so on. The sending mailboxes of such emails are all 【 customer service mailboxes 】, so you need to go to adjust 【 customer service mailboxes 】 as soon as possible.
If you have an enterprise mailbox(e.g, @shopline.com)
- Please configure 【 customer service mailbox 】 as your enterprise mailbox
- Complete domain authentication, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC ( new requirement ), click to see how to authenticate a domain
- If you have already completed the domain authentication of your customer service email in SHOPLINE, please add the record of DMARC again, as the original domain authentication of SHOPLINE doesn't include DMARC. If not, it may affect the delivery rate of your emails.
If you only have public mailboxes( e.g, @hotmail.com 、@qq.com )
- We suggest not to appear gmail or google related information in your store name, because your store name will be displayed as the sender's name, and if Google related information appears in your sender's name, Google will judge that you are impersonating their information, and the email will probably go into the spam folder.
- For example, if your sender email address is actually a yahoo email address, but the sender name is Gmail, or the prefix of the sender email address is gmail@yahoo.com
-
We recommend that you consider purchasing a domain as soon as possible and complete domain verification as soon as possible after purchase, click to see how to authenticate a domain
How to verify your domain
- In SHOPLINE admin, click【 Setting 】>【 Basic setting 】, and find 【 Basic store information 】>【 Customer service email 】, then click the button of 【Configure email】below the 【 Customer service email 】input field to enter the detailed page. If your customer service mailbox is the public mailbox ( e.g., xxxxx@hotmail.com, xxxxx@gmail.com ), then you are unable to verify the domain, since it doesn't belong to you; but if your customer service mailbox is a domain purchased by an individual / enterprise, then you can verify the domain.
- You can see that three CNAME records are displayed on the page. You need to visit the backstage of the domain hosting platform ( e.g., AliCloud ) to add the records. Apart from the three records above, you need to add another DMARC record, which is not shown on the page, please refer to the following content.
Recording Type | Host Records | Points to | |
DMARC record
|
TXT | _DMARC.your domain | v=DMARC1;p=none;rua=mailto:info@shopline.com;ruf=mailto:info@shopline.com;rf=afrf;pct=100 |

_DMARC.shopline.com
|
v=DMARC1;p=none;rua=mailto:info@shopline.com;ruf=mailto:info@shopline.com;rf=afrf;pct=100 It's a fixed string of values |
- Open your domain hosting platform for processing ( Each domain service has different operate process, the following process is only for reference )
