Smart Search Recommendations: Configuring Search Range Settings
The Search range section in Smart Search Recommendations allows you to fine-tune how search results are displayed in your store. By configuring these settings, you can optimize search accuracy, highlight priority products, and improve the customer experience when searches return no results.
This guide explains how to access the Search range settings and introduces the five available features.
Accessing Search Range Settings
To open the Search range settings page:
- In your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Apps > Smart Search Recommendations.
-
From the top menu, click Search range.
- You will see five feature cards, each introduced in the corresponding section below:
Search Settings
Use Search settings to define how your store’s search function operates and what product attributes are searchable. Follow these steps to configure:
-
In the Search range section, locate the Search settings card and click Settings.
- Configure the following options:
-
- Search scope: Select which product attributes are included in searches (e.g., product title, SKU, description, tags).
-
Search method: Choose how search terms are matched:
- Broad searches: The system splits the search term into multiple words and applies an "OR" logic between them, increasing the diversity of search results.
- Accurate searches: The system splits the search term into multiple words and applies an "AND" logic between them, narrowing the search scope to ensure more accurate results.
-
Search results: Enable error correction or industry-specific glossary expansion to deliver more relevant results.
- Error correction glossary expansion: Automatically detects and corrects user spelling or input errors to ensure accurate product results. Example: If a user enters "dresaes", the system corrects it to "dress" or "dresses".
- Industry glossary expansion: Automatically expands synonyms, category terms, or colloquial expressions based on industry context to enrich search results.
-
Display settings: Configure how out-of-stock products are shown and decide whether results should appear in predictions, search pages, or category pages.
Important: The search display settings for out-of-stock products also apply to scheduled products with no stock. Please carefully consider your product launch and sales strategy before making any changes. If you select Hide sold-out products, scheduled products will not appear in search results after they are published.
- Click Update to save your changes.
Product Promotion
Product promotion allows you to feature specific products at the top of search results when customers enter designated keywords. To set it up:
-
In the Search range section, locate the Product promotion card and click Settings.
-
Click Create promotion for a new product.
-
In the pop-up window, select one or more products from your store and click Add. You can add up to 2,000 products to the promotion list.
-
Input one or more search terms to trigger the promotion, separating each with the Enter key.
Note: For products already promoted, a warning message "Product has been promoted" will appear below them. If you continue adding search terms, the new terms will overwrite the old ones. -
When finished, click Add in the top-right or bottom-right corner to save your settings.
-
On the settings page, toggle the switch in the top-right corner to enable the feature.
The promoted products will be displayed in the Product list, where you can search, filter, or delete them for easier management.
Synonyms
With Synonyms, you can create synonym groups to help customers find products using different but related search terms.
Example:
- Synonym group: shoes, sneakers, trainers
- If a customer searches for "trainers," products tagged as "shoes" and "sneakers" will also appear.
To set up synonym groups:
-
In the Search range section, locate the Synonyms card and click Settings.
-
Click Create a new synonym group. You can create up to 1,000 synonym groups.
-
In the pop-up window, provide a group title, enter related words or phrases, and click Add to save your settings.
-
On the settings page, toggle the switch in the top-right corner to enable the feature.
Keyword Redirection
Keyword redirection lets you redirect customers to a specific page when they search for certain keywords.
Use cases:
- Searching "return policy" redirects to your store’s policy page.
- Searching "Christmas sale" redirects to a promotional landing page.
To set up keyword redirection:
-
In the Search range section, locate the Keyword redirection card and click Settings.
-
Click Add keyword. You can create up to 1,000 redirection keywords.
-
In the pop-up window, enter the keyword and the destination URL, then click Add to save your settings.
-
On the settings page, toggle the switch in the top-right corner to enable the feature.
Recommended Products for "No Results Found" Page
When a customer’s search returns no results, this feature recommends alternative products that are most likely to convert. The system analyzes the customer’s profile and browsing behavior to automatically display relevant products. Follow these steps to set it up:
| Note: If you are using a SHOPLINE OS 3.0 theme and would like to customize where this feature appears on the page, you can add the No Match Recommendations app block to the Search page in the theme editor. For details on app block functions, setup steps, and which app features require app block support, refer to the Help Center article "Integrating Apps into OS 3.0 Themes." |
-
Go to Search range > Recommended products for "No Results Found" page. Click View Privacy Policy to review the rules carefully.
-
Return to the settings card, accept the privacy agreement, and enable the feature by toggling the switch on.
| Note: Recommendations are generated by the system and cannot be manually configured. |
