Enhancing Account Security through Password Requirements and Expiration
To better safeguard your store data, this guide explains SHOPLINE’s standard account password requirements and the default 90-day password expiration policy, including how it works and how to manage your security settings. These measures are designed to help reduce the risk of unauthorized access and protect your business information.
Note (Effective January 12, 2026): Starting January 12, 2026, SHOPLINE will implement a 90-day password expiration policy. For existing merchants, you will receive an email or SMS notification regarding the initial password update to ensure your account meets the new security standards.
Password Complexity Requirements
When you register a new account or update your existing password, it must meet the following criteria to ensure maximum strength:
- Length: Between 8 and 20 characters
-
Complexity: Must include a combination of:
- Uppercase letters (A–Z)
- Lowercase letters (a–z)
- Numbers (0–9)
- Supported special characters: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ { | } ~ `
- Uniqueness: Your new password cannot be too similar to your recently used passwords.
90-Day Password Expiration Policy
To reduce the risk of compromised credentials, SHOPLINE accounts now enforce a 90-day password validity period.
Who is Affected?
This policy applies to all merchants, including those who log in using their SHOPLINE account password and those using third-party methods (Google, Facebook, or Apple).
Note: Updating your SHOPLINE password will not affect or change the password of your Google, Facebook, or Apple account. For more information on using third-party accounts, please refer to the article "Logging in to Your SHOPLINE Account."
How it Works
Every 90 days, you will be required to set a new password.
Expiration Impact
If your password expires, you will be unable to log in to the SHOPLINE Admin panel or SHOPLINE App. You must reset or update your password to regain access to your store.
Managing Password Expiration Settings
To maintain high security standards, the 90-day password expiration policy is enabled by default for all SHOPLINE accounts. You can manage this security feature in your account settings.
Important: To ensure the security of your account and store data, it is strongly recommended to keep this feature enabled. Regularly updating your password effectively reduces the risk of credential leakage and unauthorized access, providing continuous protection for your business.
Disabling or Re-enabling Password Expiration
To disable or re-enable the password expiration mechanism, follow these steps:
-
From your SHOPLINE admin, click your profile icon in the upper-right corner and select Account setting.
-
Go to the Current login account section and click the Reset password button.
-
Click the Locker icon in the upper-right corner and click Disable password expiration in the prompt message.
-
To confirm your identity, you must:
- Enter your current account password
- Enter the verification code sent to your registered email or phone number
-
To turn it back on, simply click Enable now in the same section.
Notification and Reminders
To ensure you have enough time to update your password, SHOPLINE will periodically send notifications as the expiration date approaches:
- In-App Reminders: Starting from 30 days before expiration, you will see a reminder when daily logging into the SHOPLINE admin.
- Email & SMS Alerts: SHOPLINE will send automated notifications to your registered email and phone number 15 days, 7 days, and 1 day before your password expires.
- Expiration Notice: An immediate notification will be sent via email or SMS (depending on the contact information verified in your Account settings) once the password has officially expired.
Note: For security reasons, if your password expires, you will be automatically logged out of all active sessions (SHOPLINE admin panel and SHOPLINE App) and must complete the password update process to regain access.
