Creating and Managing Blog Categories
Blog categories help you organize blog posts and control how they are displayed on the storefront. By managing blog categories, you can configure category-level settings such as comment behavior, SEO, theme templates, and the display order of blog posts within the same category.
This article explains how to create, edit, and manage blog categories in your SHOPLINE admin.
Creating a Blog Category
To create a new blog category and complete its basic configuration, follow these steps:
-
In your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Online Store > Blog and click Manage blog categories in the upper-right corner.
-
Click Create a blog category to enter the editing page.
-
On the Create a blog category page, configure the following settings:
- Title: Enter the category name that will be displayed on the storefront.
-
Comments: Choose how comments are handled for blog posts in this category:
- Comments are disabled
- Comments are allowed but require approval
- Comments are allowed and are automatically published
- Search Engine Optimization: Configure the SEO title and description for the blog category page to improve search visibility.
- Theme template: Select a theme template to control how the blog category page is displayed on the storefront.
- After completing these settings, click Save to create the blog category.
Assigning Blog Posts to a Category
After creating a blog category, you need to assign blog posts to it. Blog posts are assigned to categories from the blog post editing page, not from the category settings page.
To assign a blog post to a category:
- Open the blog post you want to assign.
-
In the Blog category field, select the category.
- Click Save to apply the change.
Once assigned, the blog post will appear under the selected category and be affected by that category’s settings.

Managing Blog Post Order Within a Category
After creating a blog category and assigning posts, you can control the display order of blog posts within that category:
-
On the Edit blog category page, locate the Related blogs section.
- Review the blog posts assigned to this category.
- Check each post’s publish status.
-
Set the Blog display order to control how posts are shown on the storefront. Four options are available:
- Update time New → Old
- Creation time New → Old
- Publish time New → Old
- Customize: Manually arrange the post order by dragging and dropping.
- Click Update to apply the setting.
Changes made here directly affect the order in which blog posts appear on the storefront for this category.
| Note: Blog post order on the storefront is managed at the category level. Individual blog post settings do not control display order. |
Editing a Blog Category
You can update a blog category’s settings at any time. To edit a blog category:
-
Go to Online Store > Blog > Manage blog categories.
- Click the category you want to edit.
- Update the category settings as needed, including:
- Title
- Comment settings
- SEO settings
- Theme template
- Blog display order
- Click Update to save your changes.
Viewing and Managing Existing Blog Categories
The blog category list page allows you to review and manage all categories in your store. From this page, you can:
- View all existing blog categories
- Check how many blog posts belong to each category
- See when a category was last updated
Previewing a Blog Category
Click the Preview icon in the Operate column to view how the blog category page appears on the storefront.
Deleting Blog Categories
If a blog category is no longer needed, you can delete categories individually or in bulk:
-
To delete a single category, click the trash icon next to the category in the Operate column, then click Confirm in the pop-up window.
-
To delete multiple categories at the same time, select the checkboxes next to the target categories, click Delete at the top of the list, then click Delete in the pop-up window to confirm.
| Note: Deleting a blog category does not delete the blog posts themselves, but those posts will no longer be assigned to the deleted category. |
Best Practices for Managing Blog Categories
- Plan your blog structure by defining categories before publishing large amounts of content.
- Use clear and descriptive category titles to improve navigation and SEO.
- Manage blog post order through category settings, not individual blog posts.
- Review comment settings regularly to prevent spam or inappropriate content.
- Keep category configurations consistent to ensure a clean storefront experience.
