Creating a Meta Dataset (Pixel) and Getting the Pixel ID
Meta now unifies its tracking infrastructure under the Dataset model. A single Dataset ID serves as a shared identifier for data tracking within your SHOPLINE admin.
By creating a Dataset, you establish the foundation required to enable and authorize the following tracking modules:
- Website Data Reporting (Meta Pixel & Conversions API)
- Offline Data Reporting (brick-and-mortar / POS conversions)
- Social E-commerce Reporting (live sales and Message Center events)
Each module must still be authorized individually before it can start sending data.
This guide explains two methods to create a Meta Dataset to track customer activity on your store and measure your ad performance.
Method 1: Creating a Dataset via Meta Business Suite
To create a dataset in Meta Business Suite, follow these steps:
-
Log in to Meta Business Suite and click Settings (gear icon).
-
In the left menu, go to Data Sources > Datasets & pixels, then click + Add.
-
In the pop-up window, enter a dataset name, optionally select your business categories, and click Create.
-
(Optional) Assign permissions and connect assets:
- In the People tab, click Assign people to grant people access to the Dataset.
- Click the Connected assets tab to connect assets, such as an Ad Account, to the Dataset.
Once created, you can find the Dataset ID displayed at the top of the page.
| Note: The Dataset ID is the same as the Pixel ID used for integrations. |
Method 2: Creating a Dataset via Meta Events Manager
To create a Dataset in Meta Events Manager, follow these steps:
-
Open Meta Events Manager and click Connect data.
