Setting Up Inventory for a New Product
Keeping your product inventory accurate helps you maintain the correct stock levels across locations and control what happens when products run out of stock.
This guide explains how to set up inventory when creating a new product in SHOPLINE, including adding a SKU and barcode, enabling inventory tracking, allowing sales when the product is out of stock, and setting the starting inventory quantity by location.

Accessing the Inventory Section
To configure inventory when creating a new product:
- From your SHOPLINE Admin, go to Products and click Create product.
-
Locate the Inventory section on the product settings page.
- After configuring the inventory settings described in the following sections, click Save to save the product.
Identifying the Product with a SKU and Barcode
In the Inventory section, enter a SKU code and barcode to identify and track your product:
- In the SKU code field, enter a unique code you use internally to identify the product.
- In the Barcode field, enter a barcode, such as an ISBN, UPC, or GTIN, if the product has one.
Turning On Inventory Tracking
Enable inventory tracking to let SHOPLINE automatically keep track of your available stock.
Turn on Track inventory. Once enabled, SHOPLINE automatically updates the available quantity as orders are placed and lets you set inventory quantities for each location.
Allowing Sales When a Product Is Out of Stock
By default, a product with Track inventory enabled can't be sold once its inventory reaches zero.
To continue accepting orders, turn on Continue selling when out of stock to let customers keep ordering the product even after it's out of stock.
