Setting Up Shipping Details for a Product
The Shipping section of a product's edit page lets you specify whether the product requires shipping and configure the information needed to calculate shipping rates and process international shipments. Setting these details correctly helps SHOPLINE calculate accurate shipping rates at checkout and provides carriers and customs authorities with the information needed to handle the product.
This guide explains how to access a product's shipping settings, specify whether the product requires shipping, associate a package with it, and configure its weight, country/region of origin, and HS code.
| Note: This guide applies to products without variants. For products with variants, shipping details are configured differently. For detailed instructions, refer to "Creating and Setting Up a Product with Variants." |
Accessing the Shipping Section
To access the shipping settings for a new or existing product:
- From your SHOPLINE Admin, go to Products.
- Click Create product to create a new product, or select an existing product to edit.
-
Locate the Shipping section on the product edit page.
- After configuring the shipping settings described in the following sections, click Save or Update to save your changes.
Marking a Product as Requiring Shipping
Use Shipping required to specify whether the product needs to be shipped to customers:
- Turn on Shipping required for physical products that need to be shipped.
- Turn off Shipping required for products that don’t require shipping, such as e-books or online courses.
Associating a Package with a Product
After enabling Shipping required, expand Add package, weight, country/region of origin, and HS code to configure additional shipping details for the product.
The Package field lets you associate a package with the product. Package information, such as dimensions and weight, can be used to calculate shipping rates and provide package details to your shipping tools and logistics providers.
You can configure the product's package in the following ways:
- Select an existing package: If you've already created packages, click the Select a package field, then search for and select one of your saved packages.
-
Create a new package: If you don't have a suitable package yet, click the Select a package field, then select + Add package. In the Parcels window, configure the following information:
- Package name: Enter a name to identify the package.
- Package Type: Select the type of packaging, such as Box.
- Weight when empty: Enter the weight of the empty package and select the appropriate unit.
- Length, Width, and Height: Enter the package dimensions and select the appropriate unit.
Once created, the package is saved under Settings > Shipping and delivery > Package, where you can manage it and reuse it for other products.
- Manage saved packages: Click Manage packages to open your store's Shipping and delivery settings, where you can review and edit your saved packages under Package.
For more information about creating and managing packages, refer to "Setting Up Package Details for Accurate Shipping Rates."
Setting a Product's Weight, Country/Region of Origin, and HS Code
Fill in the remaining shipping fields for the product:
- Weight: Enter the product's weight and select the appropriate unit: grams, kilograms, pounds, or ounces. The weight is set to 0 g by default.
- Country/region of origin: Select the country or region where the product originates. This information may be used by customs authorities to determine applicable duties, taxes, tariffs, and trade requirements.
- Harmonized System (HS) code: Enter the product's HS code. HS codes are standardized product classification codes used by customs authorities to determine applicable tariffs, duties, and other requirements for international trade.
Important Notes for Setting Up Product Shipping
- Product weight and package weight are configured separately. The Weight field specifies the weight of the product itself, while Weight when empty in the package settings specifies the weight of the packaging.
- HS codes are primarily used for international shipments. Providing an accurate HS code can help customs authorities classify the product and determine applicable duties and taxes.
- Package information isn't currently included when products are imported or exported using CSV files.
