Verifying Your Store Domain for Meta in SHOPLINE
Meta requires businesses to verify their domain ownership before using certain features on its platforms. Domain verification helps ensure that only authorized businesses can manage links and content associated with the domain.
In SHOPLINE, domain verification can be completed automatically after asset authorization or manually by adding a verification tag. This guide explains what domain verification is and how to complete the verification process in SHOPLINE.
Understanding Meta Domain Verification
Domain verification confirms that your business owns the domain used in Meta integrations. After completing verification, your business can manage link editing permissions and prevent unauthorized use of your domain.
Meta requires domain verification to enable certain features, including:
- Event tracking and conversion reporting
- Advertising and marketing integrations
- Product promotion and commerce features
Meta provides three methods to verify a domain:
- Add a meta tag to your domain homepage
- Upload an HTML file to your web directory
- Add a DNS TXT record to your DNS settings
Note: For more information about domain verification and the available verification methods, refer to Meta’s official guide: "Verify your domain from your business portfolio."
Currently, SHOPLINE supports the meta tag verification method, which allows you to verify your domain by adding a Meta-generated tag to your store domain.
Automatically Verifying Your Meta Domain in SHOPLINE
After you complete asset authorization in the Facebook channel of your SHOPLINE admin panel, SHOPLINE can automatically retrieve the meta verification tag from your authorized Meta assets and add it to your store domain.
Automatic verification may occur after you authorize assets in the following modules:
- Data tracking
- Shop
- Customer management
Once the authorization is completed, SHOPLINE will automatically:
- Retrieve the meta verification tag from Meta
- Add the tag to your store domain
- Verify the domain ownership
Note: If a meta verification tag already exists on the domain, SHOPLINE will not add another tag.
Manually Verifying Your Meta Domain in SHOPLINE
You can also manually verify your domain by retrieving the verification tag from Meta and adding it to your domain in SHOPLINE.
Step 1: Get the Meta Verification Tag from Meta Business Portfolio
Follow the steps below to obtain the verification tag from Meta:
- Go to Meta Business Settings. If you have multiple business portfolios, select the one associated with your SHOPLINE store (the one you want to verify the domain for).
-
Navigate to Brand safety and suitability > Domains, then click Add to add a new domain.
-
In the pop-up window, click + Create a domain.
-
Enter your store domain and click Add.
-
Under Select one option, choose Add a meta-tag as the verification method.
-
Copy the meta verification tag generated by Meta. You only need to copy the value inside the content=" " field of the tag.
Example: If the tag is <meta name="facebook-domain-verification" content="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" />, copy only the value xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Step 2: Add the Meta Verification Tag in SHOPLINE
After copying the verification tag from Meta, return to your SHOPLINE admin panel to add the meta tag:
- Go to SHOPLINE Admin > Channels > Facebook.
-
In the Domain verification section, click Setup.
-
In the Domain verification section, click Add, then enter the copied tag value in the corresponding field in the pop-up window.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Complete Domain Verification in Meta Business Settings
- Return to Meta Business Settings > Brand Safety & Suitability > Domains.
-
Select the domain you want to verify, then click Verify domain.
Note: It may take up to 72 hours for Facebook to detect the Meta verification tag you added. If your domain status still shows Not verified after clicking Verify domain, wait a while and then click Verify domain again.
Updating Domain Verification After Changing Your Store Domain
If you change your store’s domain, you need to verify the new domain again in the Facebook channel.
- Go to SHOPLINE Admin > Channels > Facebook.
-
Click the Domain verification section.
-
Click the pencil icon, then update the meta tag value for the new domain in the corresponding field in the pop-up window. Click Save.
-
Click Verify to complete the verification process for the new domain.
If the verification fails, make sure the correct meta verification tag has been added for the new domain.
