Managing Your Existing Markets
After you’ve created one or more markets using SHOPLINE’s Markets feature, it’s important to manage them effectively to keep your sales strategy current and aligned. This article guides you through key management actions, including previewing, activating, editing, deactivating, and removing existing markets.
Note: This article helps you maintain control over your international sales strategies by managing market configurations smoothly. For more on creating markets, see our Creating a Market guide. |
Previewing a Market
You can preview the website for a market to see the shopping experience your customers will have. This applies to both active and inactive markets, and you can view the site in any language configured for that market.
To preview a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Click the market you want to preview.
- Click the Preview button in the upper-right corner, then select the language to see how your storefront will appear.
Activating a Market
A newly created market is active by default only if you have configured shipping for all included countries or regions. If shipping fees are not fully set up, the market will remain inactive until you complete this step. It’s also recommended to configure other essential settings, such as domain, language, currency, and pricing, before activating the market.
To manually activate a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Select the market you want to activate.
- Click Enable to activate it and allow customers to make purchases.
Deactivating a Market
If you want to temporarily stop selling to a specific market without losing its settings, you can deactivate it. Customers in deactivated markets cannot complete purchases, but existing orders remain unaffected.
When a market is deactivated:
- Customers visiting domains or subdomains linked to the market will be redirected to your primary market.
- For markets using subfolders, the URLs become inactive. We recommend setting up redirects to maintain access.
To deactivate a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Select the market you want to disable.
- Click Disable in the upper-right corner. In the pop-up window, click Disable again to confirm your choice.
Removing a Market
Removing a market permanently deletes all of its settings and prevents customers in that market from checking out. Any subfolder URLs associated with the market will also become invalid. However, existing orders placed before removal will not be affected.
To remove a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Click the market you want to delete.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Remove market. In the confirmation pop-up, click Delete to complete the removal.
Editing Market Countries/Regions
You can add or remove countries and regions within an existing market to adjust your sales coverage.
Adding Countries/Regions
To add new countries or regions to a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Select the market to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Click Add country/region, select the desired locations, and click Complete.
- Click Update to save.
Removing Countries/Regions
To remove countries or regions from a market:
- Go to Settings > Markets. Select the market to edit.
- Click Edit.
- Remove unwanted countries/regions by clicking the trash bin icon.
- Click Update to save.
Tip: To move a country or region from a multi-country market to its own market, simply create a new single-country market for it. The removed country will be automatically moved out from the original market. |
