Accepting Payments with Tap to Pay on SHOPLINE POS (iPhone)
For POS merchants selling at pop-up events, local markets, or brick-and-mortar locations, Tap to Pay offers a fast, secure, and hardware-free way to accept contactless payments. With just a compatible iPhone, you can start accepting payments from NFC-enabled cards, smartphones, or smartwatches—no card reader required.
This guide will walk you through checking device compatibility and activating Tap to Pay on SHOPLINE POS. Follow the steps below to set up and start accepting payments easily with your iPhone.
Prerequisites for Using Tap to Pay on iPhone
Before setting up Tap to Pay in the SHOPLINE POS app, please ensure you meet the following requirements:
Supported Region
Tap to Pay is currently available only to merchants in the United States. We’re working to expand support to more regions in the future. Stay tuned for updates.
Supported Payment Method
To use Tap to Pay, your store must have SHOPLINE Payments enabled and use Adyen as the payment service provider. For the full setup process, please refer to the Enabling Tap to Pay in SHOPLINE Payments section.

Enabling Tap to Pay in SHOPLINE Payments
Once you’ve confirmed your region, payment setup, and device compatibility, the next step is to enable Tap to Pay within your SHOPLINE Payments settings. Follow the steps below to activate Tap to Pay for your POS system:
| Note: Before enabling Tap to Pay, make sure SHOPLINE Payments is activated for your POS store. For detailed setup steps, refer to this Help Center article. |
- From your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to POS > Settings > Payments.
- In the SHOPLINE Payments section, click Account to access the POS SHOPLINE Payments account center.
- Navigate to Manage merchants > Manage payment methods, then click Bind a store in the top right corner.
- In the list of payment methods, check Tap to Pay.
- At the bottom right of the setup page, check the box to agree to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, then click Submit.
Once enabled, the activated Tap to Pay method will appear on the Manage payment methods page.
- Return to the POS Payments settings page and click Settings in the SHOPLINE Payments section.
- On the Supported payment type list, check Tap to Pay and click Update.
Activating Tap to Pay on iPhone
When setting up Tap to Pay for the first time, you’ll need to sign in with your Apple ID to accept Apple’s terms of service. The Apple ID must belong to you or your business. Once the initial activation is complete, Tap to Pay can be paired with any iPhone logged into your store account and used across all your store locations.

- Open the SHOPLINE POS app on your iPhone and tap the hamburger icon in the upper-left corner.
- Navigate to Setting > Register settings > Payment management. Under Integrated payment, tap Tap to Pay.
- The system will automatically check the following and display prompts if any requirements aren’t met:
- Whether Tap to Pay is activated in the Admin. If prompted, refer to Enabling Tap to Pay in SHOPLINE Payments for the activation process.
- Whether the current device meets the hardware requirements. If it doesn’t, please switch to a supported device.
- If all requirements are met, the system will guide you to the Use environment test report page. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the following setup:
- Upgrade your iOS version if the current version is not supported.
- Enable a System screen lock password to prevent unauthorized use.
- When setting up Tap to Pay for the first time, you’ll need to use your Apple ID to accept Apple’s terms of service. The system will then display the Activate now button. Tap it to begin the activation process.
- Read and agree to Tap to Pay on iPhone Platform Terms and Conditions. Once accepted, you’ll be automatically redirected to Apple’s official guide. Please review it carefully to learn how to use Tap to Pay to accept payments.
You have now completed the activation process. Please run a test payment to ensure Tap to Pay is functioning correctly.
Accepting Payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone
Once Tap to Pay is enabled and set up on your device, you can start accepting contactless payments directly through the SHOPLINE POS app. Follow the steps below to complete a sale using Tap to Pay:
- In the SHOPLINE POS app, add products to the cart by scanning barcodes or by browsing and selecting items from the product list. Then, tap Pay to proceed.
- On the payment screen, select Tap to Pay as the payment method.
- The device will prompt the customer to hold their bank card, smartphone, or smartwatch near the screen or the back of the device, depending on the device model. Below are the instructions for different payment methods:

- For detailed illustrations of each payment method, please refer to the official documentation.
- If a transaction requires PIN entry under certain conditions, the PIN screen will appear automatically. The customer must enter their PIN to complete the payment.

- Contactless Bank Card: Present your iPhone to the customer and ask them to hold their card horizontally over the contactless area for a few seconds until the payment is complete.
- Apple Pay on iPhone or Apple Watch: Present your iPhone to the customer and ask them to hold their device close to the contactless area until the payment is complete.
- Other Digital Wallets and Wearables: To accept payments from other devices, ask the customer to hold their payment device near your iPhone’s contactless area until the payment is complete.
- Please wait for the Done animation to appear, indicating that the payment was successful and the transaction is being processed.
- Choose to add customer information or notes, and select whether to print the receipt or send it via email, SMS, or WhatsApp. When finished, tap Complete.
The order will be saved automatically in your Orders section and reflected in your SHOPLINE Payments transaction records.
If payment fails:
- Ask the customer to try tapping again or use a different contactless method.
- Confirm that your internet connection is stable.
- If the issue persists, try restarting the SHOPLINE POS app or select another payment method to complete the transaction.
