Setting Up Meta Shop Ads (Limited Access)
Meta Shop Ads lets your customers browse and buy your products directly from ads on Facebook and Instagram, without leaving the platform. By connecting your product catalog and store promotions to Meta, you can create a seamless shopping experience that helps boost conversion rates and increase sales.
This guide explains how to sync your products with Meta, authorize the Meta Business Extension, and manage your ongoing product and promotion sync.

Prerequisites for Setting Up Meta Shop Ads
Before connecting Meta Shop Ads, make sure that:
- You have a Facebook Page set up. We recommend using a Page with complete information and recent, consistent activity to help support ad conversion performance.
- Your personal Facebook account has admin permissions for the following assets in the Meta Business Portfolio you plan to use:
- Facebook Page
- Ad account
- Product catalog
- Pixel
- You have configured a Meta product feed in Smart Feed.

Accessing the Meta Shop Ads Setup Wizard
To access the Meta Shop Ads setup wizard:
- Go to Marketing > Channels > Facebook.

In the Meta Shop Ads section, click Setup.
Syncing Your Products with Smart Feed
Before authorizing Meta Shop Ads, sync your products to Meta through Smart Feed:

In the Install Smart Feed step, install the Smart Feed app if you haven’t already, then click Next.

In the Sync products step, click Proceed to sync your products to Meta through Smart Feed. For detailed instructions, "Smart Feed (New): Creating a Meta Product Feed (Limited Access)."
- After connecting the Meta channel and syncing your products to Meta, return to the Meta Shop Ads page and click Start Authorization to continue with Meta Business Extension (MBE) authorization.

Authorizing Meta Business Extension (MBE) for Meta Shop Ads
The Meta Business Extension (MBE) connects your product catalog, ad account, and Facebook Page so Meta Shop Ads can automatically sync your products, stock, and promotions. To authorize MBE:

In the MBE Authorization section, click Authorize.
- Log in to Facebook and select the account you want to use.

On the Open your shop screen, confirm the Shops and Facebook Ads permissions, then click Get started to continue.

On the Select Meta Business assets screen, choose the Business Manager you want to connect, then click Next.

On the Select catalog screen, choose the product catalog to sync with Meta, or click Create new to create a new catalog. Then, click Next.

On the Select your ad account screen, choose the ad account for Meta Shop Ads, then click Next.

On the Select dataset or create as new screen, choose an existing dataset or click Create new, then click Next to continue.
- Automatic advanced matching: Turn on this toggle to help match your website visitors to their Facebook accounts using information such as email address or phone number.

On the Shop details screen, fill in the following fields, then click Next to continue:
- Contact email: The email address customers can use for inquiries.
- Return window: The number of days customers have to return a product after delivery.

Review the required permissions on the What is SHOPLINE allowed to do? screen, check the box to agree to the Terms and conditions, then click Confirm.
- Wait while your accounts are linked. This may take a few minutes.
- Once you see SHOPLINE is connected to Meta, click Next to finish.
| Note: A Meta business portfolio can only be connected to one store. If you see the error message "BM is already connected to another store" during authorization, contact your SHOPLINE account manager for assistance. |
Managing Your Meta Shop Ads Connection
After authorization is complete, manage your connection from the Meta Shop Ads Connection page:
- Go to Meta for Business: Opens Meta for Business so you can manage your account directly.
- Product Catalog: Shows the catalog currently connected to Meta Shop Ads.
- Cancel authorization: Disconnects your store from Meta Shop Ads. This stops synchronization between your store and Meta, but products or data already synced to Meta are not automatically removed.
Syncing Promotions to Meta Shop Ads
You can sync eligible SHOPLINE discount or automatic discount campaigns to Meta, allowing customers to see your latest promotions on Facebook and Instagram.
Creating Eligible Promotions
Before syncing, make sure your store has at least one discount or automatic discount campaign that meets all of the following requirements:
- The campaign type is Amount off order or Amount off products (recommended).
- Customer eligibility is set to All.
- All Markets are selected.
- Applicable channels includes at least Online Store and Facebook.

Syncing Promotions
To sync your promotions to Meta Shop Ads:

On the Meta Shop Ads page, go to the Promotion Synchronization section and click Sync now.

In the Select sync scope pop-up window, select a sync option:
- All activities: Sync all active promotions instantly, without manual selection.
- Specific activities: Select the promotions you want to sync.
- Exclude activities: Sync all promotions except those you exclude.
- After you confirm your selection, the sync will run automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions about Meta Shop Ads
Q1: Why can't I complete Meta authorization?
Make sure you have completed the Smart Feed setup with a Meta product feed, and that your Facebook account has the necessary permissions for the Meta Business Manager and Facebook Page you want to connect.
Q2: Why can't I select my Facebook Page or product catalog?
Confirm that the Facebook Page belongs to the Business Manager you selected, that your account has access to it, and that the product catalog already exists in Meta.
Q3: Do I need to set up Smart Feed before connecting Meta Shop Ads?
Yes. Meta Shop Ads relies on the product feed created in Smart Feed. See "Smart Feed (New): Creating a Meta Product Feed (Limited Access)" for setup instructions.
Q4: How can I preview my Shop from a customer’s perspective?
To preview your Shop as a customer, your Facebook account must be added to the SHOPLINE allowlist, and your current location must be in a region where Meta Shops is supported. For a list of supported regions, see Meta’s official documentation.

Q5: How long does the review process take for a newly created Shop and products synced for the first time?
A newly created Shop must be reviewed by Meta before it can be displayed to customers. The review typically takes 1–2 business days. Products synced to your catalog for the first time also undergo a review, which typically takes 1–2 business days. Once approved, the products will appear with the Approved status.
