Managing Blog Comments
Blog comments allow readers to interact with your content and share feedback. SHOPLINE provides tools to review, approve, hide, or delete comments so you can maintain a healthy discussion environment on your storefront.
This article explains how to access blog comments, manage their visibility, and understand how comment settings work.
Accessing Blog Comment Management
You can manage all blog comments from the Blog module.
To access blog comments:
- In your SHOPLINE admin panel, go to Online Store > Blog.
-
Click Manage blog comments in the upper-right corner.
If there are pending comments, you may also see a notification banner at the top of the Blog list page. Click Go to view to open the comment management page directly.
Reviewing Blog Comments
On the blog comments management page, you can review all comments submitted by readers.
Each comment includes the following information:
- Comment content: The text submitted by the reader.
- Related blog post: The blog post on which the comment was submitted.
- Comment by: The name or identifier of the commenter.
- Comment time: The date and time when the comment was submitted.
- Approval status: The current review status of the comment (Approved, Pending review, or Spam).
Understanding Comment Statuses
You can use the status tabs at the top of the Blog Comments page to review comments by status. After you take action on a comment, its Approval status will be updated accordingly.
- All: Displays all comments, regardless of their current status.
- Pending review: The comment remains hidden on the storefront until it is approved.
- Approved: The comment is visible on the storefront.
- Spam comments: The comment is moved to the Spam comments tab for flagging purposes. Its visibility depends on the blog category’s comment settings.
- Deleted (invisible): The comment is permanently removed and cannot be recovered. Deleted comments are not shown in any status tab.
Moderating Blog Comments
You can moderate blog comments individually or in bulk to control which comments appear on your storefront.
To moderate a single comment:
-
Go to Online Store > Blog > Manage blog comments.
- Locate the comment or comments you want to manage.
- Select the checkbox next to one or more comments.
-
Use the action bar at the top of the list to perform one of the following actions:
- Approve: Make the selected comment(s) visible on the storefront.
- Mark as spam: Move the selected comment(s) to the Spam comments list.
- Delete: Permanently remove the selected comment(s).
These actions help you filter out spam, inappropriate content, or irrelevant messages.
Understanding How Blog Comment Visibility Is Controlled
Blog comment visibility is controlled by blog category settings. Each blog category defines how comments are handled for all blog posts assigned to that category.
Comment Handling Options by Category
In a blog category’s settings, you can choose one of the following options in the Comments section:
- Comments are disabled: Readers cannot leave comments on blog posts in this category.
- Comments are allowed but require approval: Comments must be reviewed before appearing on the storefront.
- Comments are allowed, and are automatically published: Comments appear immediately after submission.
| Note: Changing comment settings for a category affects all blog posts within that category. For detailed steps on configuring comment settings, see the "Creating and Managing Blog Categories" guide. |
Best Practices for Managing Blog Comments
- Review comments regularly to maintain content quality and trust.
- Use approval-required settings to prevent spam on high-traffic blogs.
- Disable comments for announcement-style or informational posts if interaction is not needed.
- Manage comment behavior at the category level for consistency.
- Delete comments only when necessary; hiding is often sufficient for moderation.
