Creating and Setting Up a Product
Creating a product in SHOPLINE involves configuring everything from its name and price to its inventory and sales channels. Understanding the product page helps you create products efficiently and ensure they're ready to sell.
This guide walks you through creating a new product, completing its essential settings, and saving it for future publishing or immediate sale.
Starting a New Product
To create a new product:
- In your SHOPLINE Admin, go to Products.
-
Click Create product in the upper-right corner.
Adding Product Information and Media
The Product information and Image/video sections contain the basic details customers see when viewing your product.
- Name: The product name displayed in your store and throughout the Admin.
- Summary: A brief description that may appear in product previews and search results.
- Description: A detailed product description. You can write it manually or generate one using the built-in AI generator.
- Image/video: Upload product images or add a video URL.
For detailed instructions on configuring product information, descriptions, images, videos, and other product media, refer to "Configuring Product Information" and "Setting Up Images and Videos for a Product."
Setting Product Prices
Every product requires a selling price before it can be purchased. In the Prices section, configure the following:
- Price: The selling price displayed to customers.
- Compare at price: An optional original price displayed with a strikethrough to indicate a discount. To display a sale price, enter a Compare at price that is higher than the Price.
- Product cost: The cost of purchasing or manufacturing the product. This value is for internal reference only and isn't visible to customers.
- Profit: Displays the estimated profit, calculated automatically as Price − Product cost. This field can't be edited directly.
- Margin: Displays the estimated profit margin, calculated automatically as Profit ÷ Price. This field can't be edited directly.
- Charge tax on this product: Leave this option enabled if the product is subject to tax at checkout.
Note: The Product cost, Profit, and Margin fields are for internal reference only and aren't visible to customers. For more information, refer to "Setting Prices, Costs, and Tax for a Product."
Setting Up Inventory
The Inventory section controls how SHOPLINE tracks stock for the product. You can configure the following settings:
- SKU code: A unique code used to identify and track the product for inventory management.
- Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.): An optional barcode identifier used for scanning products and integrating with barcode-supported systems. Unlike a SKU, a barcode follows standardized formats such as ISBN, UPC, or GTIN.
- Track inventory: Enabled by default. Keep this option enabled if you want SHOPLINE to automatically track inventory levels.
- Continue selling when out of stock: Disabled by default. Enable this option to continue accepting orders after inventory reaches zero.
- Location: Enter the initial inventory quantity for each inventory location. All locations start with a quantity of 0 until inventory is entered.

Choosing Sales Channels and Markets
The Product settings panel determines whether customers can purchase the product and where it's available. You can configure the following settings:
- Activate: Disabled by default for new products. Enable this option when you're ready to publish the product.
- Visibility: Determines whether the product is displayed on your storefront.
- Sales channels: Select the channels where the product is available, such as Online Store, POS, or connected sales channels.
- Markets: Select the markets where the product can be sold.
Important: New products are created with Activate turned off. Even if every other setting is complete, customers can't purchase or view the product until Activate is enabled.
For more information, refer to "Choosing Sales Channels and Markets for a Product."
Configuring Optional Product Settings
The remaining sections let you organize your catalog and configure additional product information. You can complete these settings now or update them later.
- SPU code, Vendor, Tag, and Product type: Organize and filter products within your catalog. Refer to "Setting Up Product Tags, Type, and Vendor."

Saving the Product
After configuring the required settings, click Save at the bottom of the page.
After the product is created, this same button is labeled Update for any future changes.
Note: You can save a product before completing every section and return later to finish the remaining settings. When you're ready to make the product available for purchase, remember to enable Activate.
Managing a Product After Saving
After you save a product, additional actions become available at the top of the product edit page. You can duplicate the product, preview it on your storefront, share it, or quickly move between products.
Duplicating a Product
If you want to create a new product based on an existing one, you can duplicate the product instead of creating it from scratch:
- From the product edit page, click Copy.
- In the Duplicate product window, update the Product Name as needed.
- Choose whether to include the following information in the duplicated product:
- Duplicate product images: Copies the existing product images to the new product.
- Duplicate product inventory: Copies the existing inventory information to the new product.
- Choose the Product Status for the duplicated product:
- Already on-shelf: Creates the duplicated product as an active product.
- Already off-shelf: Creates the duplicated product as an inactive product.
- Click Next and follow the prompts to complete the duplication.
Previewing a Product
Click Preview to see how the product appears on your storefront. This can help you check the product's content and presentation before making it available to customers.
Sharing a Product
Click Share to access sharing options for the product. You can copy the product link or share it directly through one of the supported social platforms.
Available sharing options may vary depending on the platforms supported by SHOPLINE.
Switching Between Products
Use the previous and next buttons in the upper-right corner of the product edit page to move between products without returning to the product list. This is useful when you need to review or update multiple products individually.
